Treatments and Procedures
Partial Knee Resurfacing (PKR)
It is an innovative procedure designed to improve surgical outcome for patients with osteoarthritis in only one surface of the knee and possibly provide quicker recovery. A PKR implant is much smaller than a total knee implant and does not disturb the knee's healthy tissues. By selective targeting, only the damaged portion of the knee is removed and resurfaced with the small components, without compromising the healthy bone and tissue surrounding it. By retaining undamaged parts of the knee, the joint may bend better and function more naturally. A much smaller incision – about 3-4” – is made for PKR than for a total knee replacement.
Ligament Reconstructions
Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL reconstruction) is a surgical tissue graft replacement of the anterior cruciate ligament, located in the knee, to restore its function after anterior cruciate ligament injury. The torn ligament is removed from the knee before the graft is inserted through a hole created in the Tibia (shin bone). The surgery is performed arthroscopically. Most common used grafts are either Semitendinosus-Gracilis (Hamstring) graft or Patellar Tendon graft.
Limb Lengthening
To correct the limb length discrepancy or to increase the height of a person, artificial lengthening of lower extremity bones is done by various construction devices.
External Devices – Ilizarov
External fixation
Combined – External fixation
and internal Nail (LON)
Internal Devices – PRECISE
device
Distraction Osteosynthesis technique is utilized where in an artificial fracture in the bone is created and the regeneration process is prolonged with distraction, till the required bone length is achieved.
The usual rate of bone growth is about 1mm per day or an average of 1 inch per month. An increased length up to 8 inches in height can be achieved.
Arthroscopic Surgeries
Arthroscopic Knee surgery is a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which an examination and treatment of damage of the interior of a joint is performed using an arthroscope, a type of endoscope that is inserted into the joint through a small incision. Arthroscopic procedures can be performed either to evaluate or to treat many Knee conditions including torn meniscus, f loating loose body, ACL reconstruction, and trimming of damaged cartilage.
The advantage of arthroscopy over traditional open surgery is that the joint does not have to be opened up fully. Instead, only two small incisions are made - one for the Arthroscope and one for
the surgical instruments to be used in the knee cavity. This reduces recovery time and increases the rate of surgical success due to reduced trauma to the connective tissue.

Patella mal-alignment
The Institute offers the most appropriate, comprehensive and cost-effective treatment for a wide range of joint problems.
There are two kinds of treatment available:
Conservative Medical Treatment
Medical management with appropriate supportive therapy is provided for select patients. Those who do not respond are identified for further evaluation and investigation.
Surgical Treatment
A well-trained, skilled team performs the joint surgery. Modern theaters, state of the art equipment, and intra-operative monitoring make the joint surgery safe.
Dedicated pain relief team can make the post-operative period comfortable and early ambulation possible. The rehabilitation and support therapies can facilitate early return to work.
Some of the surgical treatments are:
Total Joint Replacements (TKR, THR)Total Knee Replacement(TKR) also called total knee arthroplasty, is a highly successful surgical procedure which involves replacement of all three compartments of the knee – the medial compartment (inside aspect of the knee), the lateral compartment (outside aspect of the knee) and the patella-femoral compartment (in front of the knee).
Total Hip replacement(THR) replaces the damaged bearing surfaces in the hip that are causing pain. At the upper end of the femur (thigh bone), the bone is trimmed to accept a specially shaped metal ball component and the Acetabulum is prepared for a plastic cup.
