What Is Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization is the process of improving the visibility of a website on organic ("natural" or un-paid) search engine result pages (SERPs), by incorporating search engine friendly elements into a website. A successful search engine optimization campaign will have, as part of the improvements, carefully select, relevant, keywords which the on-page optimization will be designed to make prominent for search engine algorithms.

Search engine optimization is broken down into two basic areas: on-page, and off-page optimization. On-page optimization refers to website elements which comprise a web page, such as HTML code, textual content, and images. Off-page optimization refers, predominantly, to backlinks (links pointing to the site which is being optimized, from other relevant websites).

Types of SEO

On Page Optimization

1.SEO Friendly URL : The URL should be short and SEO friendly.

2. Title Tags : Title tags should have the keywords and must clearly convey the message of that particular page.

3. Meta Description : Meta description provides a brief introduction about the page. Suggested length for description is 160 characters.

4.Image Optimization : Optimization here means that the images should have a proper name, alt text and image description.

5.Proper Heading Tags : Heading tags are basically defined from H1 to H6. Priority order is H1 > H2 > H3 >H4 > H5 >H6. Make proper use of heading tags.

6.Site Speed : Site speed matters a lot. It is even proven from the fact that Google even displays the time in which it returns the result to its searchers.

7 .Mobile Friendliness : Majority of the search happens on mobile. Google even shows “This page is mobile friendly” in the Google Listings.

8.Keyword Density : Keyword stuffing should be avoided as it irritates the visitor and search engines.

9.Content : Content has to be unique and should carry value for the searchers and visitors because they are the final consumer of the content.
