We welcome our students back after Diwali Break. I do hope

that students had a good break and enjoyed the festivities

with friends and family. As students resume studies in the

second term, I urge you to support them in every possible way

so that their performance can be optimized. We have also

decided to set up a ‘Service Desk’ for any complaints and

concerns which may forwarded to the Service Desk. An email

ID will be shared shortly with you so that we can resolve them

at the earliest.

All students will now report to school in winter uniform.

Encourage the children to be well turned out at all times.

Halloween's DayCelebration

Halloween’s Day was celebrated with a fun filled exciting fancydress parade in the PYP Segment. There were very happy

Superheroes, Fairies, Witches, Goblins and other interestingcharacters walking around. Excited faces were seen everywhere as

children posed for photographs.

Learning to identify and express feelingsin a positive way helps children todevelop the skills they need to managethem effectively. When children learn tomanage their emotions in childhood, itleads to positive attitudes and behaviorsin later life. You are your child'semotional coach. When your childwatches you express your emotions,he/she can learn that their own feelingsare natural and permissible, can beexpressed, and can be talkedabout.That's an important thing for ourchildren to learn.A session wasconducted with PYP boarding studentson "I Respect My Emotions & Feelings"with the aim of exploring a deeperinsight into their emotions. The sessionincluded identifying various emotionsand expressing the same in randomsituations and learning from the after-effects or consequences of theirreactions towards the situation. Thesession built the feeling of empathy, theimportance of positive and stablerelationships, having a positive sense ofself, good mental health, and well-beingamong the students.The basic premisethat the children learned today from thissession about emotions is that allfeelings are okay to have; however, onlysome reactions are okay.

Emotions andFeelings Seminar

"When little people are overwhelmed bybig emotions, it's our duty to share ourcalm and not join their chaos."A child'ssocio-emotional developmentmotivates them to learn critical skillssuch as the ability to communicate,connect with others, resolve conflicts,self-regulate, display kindness andempathy.

The objective of this session was tomake students emotionally strong andgiving them ownership of their body sothat any 'not so positive' events do notimpact their growth and personality. Thesession included the understanding anddifference between good and bad touchthrough role-play, pictures, and videos.Students were told about safe touchesthat make them feel cared for andimportant. Talking about bad touch,swimsuit rules, bad touch areas of thebody parts and avoiding strangers werementioned. Students were educated/encouraged to say "NO" and inform anelder if they experience bad touch. Thesession was informative and interactive."Wisdom is giving the children wings,along with the riddle of awareness tokeep them safe from prying hands." -Yamini Vijenddan.

Good Touch, BadTouch Sessions

"Touch has a memory." - John Keats.Touch- a feeling of love, care, affection.But can it also be a feeling of fear,discomfort, and distress?We want ourchildren to be safe and secure and alsoprotect them against all odds. It isnecessary to sensitize and equip ourchildren so that they are ready to faceand handle any odd situation or personcoming their way. Today, a session wasconducted on Good and Bad touch forGrades - Nursery, and KG.

GD Goenka World School offers student-centered classrooms with variousactivities and arrangements wherestudents actively perform individual orgroup tasks and the teacher acts as afacilitator, considering different needs ofthe students. We believe that studentslearn and retain information betterwhen they are engaged in hands-onclassroom games and activities. Theytake responsibility for their own learningand involve themselves in what they arelearning to practice the same in theirreal-life context by taking action.Activities that work well in a liveclassroom setting include taming thetables, passing the parcel, pictureconcepts, spin the wheel, multiplicationgame, forming sentences with correctstructure, pattern formation, pairresearch work and many more.# Whatwe learn becomes a part of how welearn.

Seminar on theEnvironment

In order to create an enablingenvironment, "mobilize the energy,attention, curiosity, and focus ofchildren" - Howard Gardner. PYPnurtures and develops young studentsas caring, active participants in alifelong journey of learning through itsinquiry- led transdisciplinaryframework.

They were welcomed by theirgrandchildren in their respective formrooms where they played games, sangand danced with them. The daywitnessed 100 percent participation ofstudents of the PYP. They put up a play,dance performances and songs for themwhich were thoroughly enjoyed by thegrandparents.The grandparents whoattended the programme felt veryspecial and were overwhelmed with theperformances of the students. The eventwas a great success and concluded witha short address by a grandparent.

Grandparents are our heritage and areessential members of our families andcommunities.They are a family’sgreatest treasure, the founders of aloving legacy, the greatest storytellers,the keepers of traditions. Through theirspecial love and care, grandparentskeep a family close at heart. That iswhy a special day, Grandparents Day inSchool, is set aside every year to honourthem.This year too,GD Goenka WorldSchool celebrated Grandparents Day onSeptember 9,2019.

Logo Designing Competition for grade 6;Web Page Designing Competition ,Grade 7 ; and Web Site Designing Competition forGrade 8 .These competitions were aimed atevolving the knowledge and excellenceamong the students through teamwork.Students participated with full zeal andenthusiasm.

IT Week

IT Week was celebrated in the lastweek of August to explore and nourishthe talents of Cambridge LowerSecondary students. To begin with, anassembly was conducted on the topic“Internet Safety” and there werevarious competitions held throughoutthe week to tap the proficiency of thestudents :

Children were charmed to see thedelicate display of carvings and craft.The museum is mainly popular for itsextensive collection of textiles and thestudents were mesmerized by the talentand workmanship of the craftsmen .Overall the trip was a fruitful learningexperience and the students got to knowthe rich culture that prevails in India.

An educational trip to Crafts Museum,Delhi, was organised for the students ofgrades VI and VII on September 6 ,2019.The prime purpose was to associate thestudents with a sense of appreciationfor the rich craft , textile and heritageof India.

Roald Dahl’s 103rdBirthday CelebrationGD Goenka World School celebratedBritish writer Roald Dahl’s 103rdBirthday on 13 September 2019. RoaldDahl is a beloved British writer. He isthe author of some of the world’s best-known children’s novels. His bookschampion the essence of kind-heartedness, feature an underlyingwarm sentiment and are considered tobe the most engrossing.

To commemorate his dedication towriting for children and his birthday,students of CLS crafted marvelousbookmarks to recollect thereminiscence of his fabulous books.Books written by Roald Dahl wereenthusiastically issued by pupils, whowrote book reviews for others to read.‘Roald Dahl Day’ was celebrated withgreat eagerness and spirit, with severalbirthday cards, making him even morepopular among students.

Sports Day for theunpriviliged children

Shashank Singh Kataria of grade 10th,spearheaded a sports day for theUnderPrivileged Children. Sports hasalways had a universal appeal to all thesections of our social fabric. The SportsDay has left a tangible and quite avisible impact on the lives of theparticipants.

An inspiring workshop was conductedfor girls grade 8th -12th (boarding) on“Body Positivity”, giving our young girlsthe understanding that it’s okay to bedifferent, we all are uniquely beautiful inour own ways, and it’s not the power ofpositive thinking that will erase the badmessages we’ve internalized; it’s the actof radical acceptance.

FROZEN- thefabulous Annual Day 

The young Goenkans of IBDP and IGCSEcreated the world of ‘Frozen’ on theannual day and mesmerised theaudience with their spectacularperformance at the Epicentre Gurgaonon 7th September 2019. The dance-drama depicted a devastating incidentthat coerces the kingdom of Arendelleto face the endless winter. PrincessAnna must journey to save herestranged sister Elsa in the hope tobreak the spell on Arendelle and comecloser to her sister. However, dangerlurks in every corner and as Anna ispulled in different directions. Will shesucceed? Will Arendelle be able toexperience summer again? These werethe intriguing thoughts of the audience.

Mr Avinash Pandey, the CEO of ABPnews, was the chief guest for the day.He encouraged the students with hiswords saying that one should acceptchallenges in the way of life becauseinteresting experimentations can alsolead to outstanding success. He saidthat parents and teachers need tocreate environment for suchexperiences. Also present on theoccasion were Mr Nipun Goenka,Managing Director, G D Goenka Groupand Ms Radhika Goenka. The eminentguests accompanied by the DirectorPrincipal Dr Neeta Bali lit theceremonial lamp. The annual reportwas presented by the Director-Principal. Her message to parents wasto encourage students as what weshould look at is not excellence butrespect the process of learning. Shealso added that the school catered tothe specific needs of every student.Theparents were ecstatic to see thebrilliant performance by their wardsand were able to experience thenurturing environment their childrenmature in, which concomitantlyprompted them to reminisce theirschool days.

The Doon School Model United NationsConference.

On August 16-18th, a team of 7 students accompanied by our MUN co-

ordinator Ms.Priya Mahendru attended the 13th edition of The Doon School

Model United Nations Conference. After three days of rigorous debates and

discussions in 6 different committees, our students bagged the following

accolades:-Priyam Sharma won the Best Delegate award in the UNGA

SPECIAL.Yuvraj Chadha won the Most Outstanding Delegate award in the

Union Cabinet of Ministers. Anisha Sethi and Atul Sharma won the

Honourable Mention award as a team in the International Press

Corps.Shashank Kataria, Adi Mishra and Pranav Jalan all received special

verbal mentions for their exceptional performance in their committees .We

are proud to announce that all awards bagged by the team under their

teacher’s guidance led to GD Goenka World School being felicitated as the

Best Delegation for this year’s conference !!

Career Fair

GD Goenka World School hosted theCareer Fair for students of Grades XI toXII. About fourteen universitiespromoted their education mission atthe fair.The participating institutionswere well-reputed internationallyranked universities offeringconsiderable academic options,scholarships and admission informationto students. The purpose of this eventwas to create an open, direct platformbetween the students and theparticipating international universities.

The Career Fair encouraged thestudents to gain critical knowledge onwhere to study, what to study and howto make it happen. Students heardirectly from admissions officers andevaluate the best choice for theircareer path ahead. They assess whatthe universities had to offer by way ofcareer choices. This enabled ourstudents to directly engage withleading international universities.

COMCON"Commerce Conclave 2019" (ComCon) wasorganized by the Humanities Department on2nd Aug'19. The objective of the event was toprovide an opportunity for students to expresstheir knowledge of Business through variouscompetitions. Many top-ranking IB schools andtalented pupils expressed enthusiasm towardsparticipating in the event as evident from theparticipant list which included top schools suchas GD Goenka Signature School, Scottish High,Blue Bells Model School, Sangam School ofExcellence, MSG Glorious International School,GD Goenka Public School, etc. A lot of excitingcompetitive events centered around awarenessof the current business environment in theglobal scenarios, such as Handicraft Sales,Poster Making, Video Making, InnovativeProduct Display were part of the COMCON. Theevent was formally launched by DirectorPrincipal Mrs. Neeta Bali with the lightning oflamp.

This was followed by a colorful openingceremony and wonderful performances byskillful students of GD Goenka World school.Theevent started with the 'Poster makingcompetition' and began in the art room. Thetheme of this competition was 'EconomicDevelopment'. All the student participantsdisplayed their talent in Arts by reflecting thedevelopment challenges being endured inmaintaining a balanced approach towardseconomic activity, environmental responsibility,and societal benefit. Our own GD Goenka WorldSchool grabbed the 1st position. At the sametime, Handicraft Sales competition was beingheld in the dance room. Here, the studentscame up with several handicrafts and theirbusiness plans to promote the rich culture ofIndia. The handicrafts were sold to studentsand teachers of GD Goenka World School. Here,Scottish High grabbed the 1st position, followedby GD Goenka World School. Besides the sales,'Video making competition' was also being heldin the MPH. The theme for this competition was"Economic development". All the studentspresented their informative videos. Here, theSangam School of Excellence won thecompetition.Last but not least, the longestevent "Product display" was held at the MPHwhere students had to present their productsbased on their knowledge of 4P's of Marketing.All the students consummately presented theirinnovative products and explained the featuresof their products to the judges. Here again, ourown School GD Goenka won the judge's vote.The event ended with the "Closing ceremony"where exquisite performances were on displayand awards were distributed. The winner of theoverall event was no other than GD GoenkaWorld School and was accorded the titleaccordingly. All the participating schoolsexpressed having a great experience and thrillderived from the event. With promises ofcoming back the next year, the participatingschools were given a warm send-off andcurtains fell on COMCON 2019.

The students had prepared and werecarrying placards with relevant slogansfor water conservation which wereappreciated by many. It was a greatexperience for the students to be part ofa movement for public good which willhelp in sensitizing them towards waterconservation.After the completion of therun, the students performed on stageand enthralled a large crowd by singingsongs and playing their instruments. Theperformance on violin by KushagraSharma of Grade 9 was a hit amongstthe audience. We take this opportunityto congratulate all the students andparents who participated in this noblecause and made the school proud.

The Great Ganga Run

The Great Ganga Run 2019 was part of“NamamiGange Programme”.NamamiGange Programme is anIntegrated Conservation Mission,approved as the 'Flagship Programme'by the Government of India toaccomplish the twin objectives ofeffective abatement of pollution,conservation, and rejuvenation ofNational River Ganga. 30 students fromthe School joined the run along withDHM Mrs. Shahnaz Banoo Butt andsome parents on September 15, 2019,Sunday at Jawahar Lal Nehru StadiumNew Delhi. The run was organized infour categories- 21 Kms, 10 Kms, 5 Kms,and 2 Kms. Majority of the students ranin and successfully completed 10 Kmcategory. We are happy to report thattwo of the students Abhishek KasanaGrade 12 and Masood Ahmad IkhlasGrade 8 ran in 21 Kms category andcompleted the same in good time.

Interact Club of GD Goenka World School was felicitated with “2018-2019Rotary Citation with Platinum Distinction” for the exemplary socially

sensitive work done in past one year by District Governor (RotaryInternational District 3012) during Governor’s Official Visit and Club’s new

board Installation for the Rotary Year 2019-20 on August 20, 2019 in TheWoods Club, Gurugram. It is a highly recognized award, won by rarest of

Interact Clubs across the globe.Our Interact Club was represented bycurrent President, Vice President and Club In-charge Mrs. Shahnaz Banoo

Butt. During the felicitation ceremony District Governor Rtn. Deepak Guptahad personal interaction with Interactors and Mrs. Shahnaz. Interactorsdiscussed about their ongoing projects and future plans to serve more in

community. All the Rotarians present during the function appreciated thevariety of the projects and the short time period within which these wereimplemented by our Interact Club.Thanks to the Rotary Citation Team for

recognizing our efforts. We wish to acknowledge the contribution ofRotarian, Dr. Nischal Pandey, who has been a driving force and a great help

in promoting our efforts.

GO GREEN

Class 12 boarders of GDGWS InteractClub in collaboration with BhagatFoundation NGO for Child EducationGurugram organized a Tree PlantationDrive under the aegis of its GO GREENProject on August 24, 2019, at D BlockPark Sector 57 Gurugram.The boardersalong with DHM Mrs. Shahnaz BanooButt and their house parents boardedthe school bus early morning around 8am and first went directly to the schoolrun by the NGO to pick up the kids fromthe NGO School. The kids of the NGOschool upon boarding our bus wereexcited to board an AC bus for the firsttime.

The bus took the boarders along withthe NGO school kids to the nearby park.Participating in a tree plantation driveand directly getting involved in diggingpits and planting trees was somethingwhich many boarders had neverexperienced before. A total of around60 trees were planted. The boardersalso entertained the NGO school kids,around 90 students, by dancing,playing games and singing folk songswith them especially songs onJanamashtami. DHM and the boardersalso shared their knowledge with theNGO school kids about the importanceof protecting the environment generallyand especially about planting trees.The NGO school kids also shared theirlife experiences with the boarders. Theboarders also distributed refreshmentsamongst the kids.
