BAKE SALE TO HELP VICTIMS OF
THE EARTHQUAKE IN NEPAL!
On Tuesday 12th May, the student council will be or-ganising a bake sale to raise funds for the victims of the Nepal earthquake. Money raised will be sent to the British School of Kathmandu in Nepal, who have ensured us that, “money pledged to our care will re-sult in every single penny being spent on projects that will benefit children, are related to education, and we know will give long term benefit to the children and people of Nepal.” Please see the link below for information on what the British School of Kathmandu, who are also a member of COBIS, like BESA, are doing to help the earthquake victims. You can also donate directly if you wish by clinking on this link. http://www.tbskathmandu.org/extra-curricular/community-service-charitable-work/ The school council would be very grateful if you
could send in a cake/cookies etc with your child on
Tuesday, and/or allow them to bring in some money
to buy a cake.
Thank you.

and were lucky enough to see a range of places including a
behind the scenes tour of The Grand Bazaar, Topkapi Pal-
ace, The Sulemaniye Mosque, The Blue Mosque, The
Hagia Sophia, Buyuk Ada, Istiklal Caddesi and many more.

FOREST SCHOOLS AT BESA
MAY 2015 • Issue 29
Year 5 have been lucky enough to spend the last three weeks partici-
pating in the Pilot Scheme for the new Forest Schools sessions. We
have been involved in a number of exciting activities, including build-
ing shelters, making tree spirits, swinging in the trees, collecting and
identifying flora and fauna, making forest pictures and educating oth-
ers about the importance of not throwing rubbish into the woods.
Perhaps the highlight of the whole experience, described by some of
the children as “the best day of my life,” was setting and lighting a fire
in the woods. The children collected dead wood, helped set up the fire
ring and lay the fire, and then cooked sausages and marshmallows on
the open fire. They tasted delicious!
Forest Schools has been a wonderful experience for everyone in-
volved, and we hope to be able to share the joy and learning with more
classes next year.
For more information on Forest Schools, please visit:

Making tree spirits out of mud. Enjoying the fire.
Putting on some more wood to
keep the fire burning. Learning how to feed the fire safely.
The fire circle – learning about safety.

YEARS 3 & 4 VISIT 'MINIK KASIK' KITCHENS TO MAKE HEALTHY PIZZAS
TURKISH LESSON WITH EYFS
In Early Years Foundation Stage, we are learning all about
food. This week in Turkish lessons, we learnt the names of
some food. We also tasted food that were sweet and
sour. We enjoyed singing Turkish songs about food!
CINDERELLA
The Year 3‟s and 4‟s performed this week, for an audience
of diplomatic special guests including the Turkish Foreign
Ministers wife, Mrs. Cavusoglu, at the British Ambassa-
dor‟s Residence. They performed a selection of songs
from their spring show, which was the Roald Dahl
„Cinderella‟ play. Once again, they sang beautifully and
impressed their audience with both their singing and pro-
fessionalism. Well done!
This week, Years 3 & 4 went to the 'Minik Kasik' kitchens to make healthy pizzas. They got to roll out the dough, apply tomato paste and a variety of healthy toppings of their choice. Once their healthy pizzas had been baked in the oven, they enjoyed eating their tasty meals! The visit was rounded off with the children being presented with 'Minik Kasik' little chef graduation certifi-cates. We would like to thank Mrs Selin Oztekin and Ilknur Seyhan of 'Minik Kasik' for inviting our children to this fun and healthy activity.
