B.E.S.-Believing in Every Student as we Set Sail For Learning May, 2013
Note from Nurse Amy
Just a reminder to parents that all over the counter medicines need to be picked up by the end of the day on Tuesday, May 21st. If not, all meds left for the summer will be destroyed. Do not pick Emergency meds up until the last day of school, in case they are needed before then. Thank you!!! Amy Contratto, RN Burns Elementary School-School Health Nurse

It is so hard to believe that the school year is almost over. We have had such a GREAT year in
Preschool! The children have made so much progress throughout the year. We had our End of
the Year Celebration at Legion Park on May 10. Even though it rained that morning, we still had
many students/families show up for refreshments and the handing out of certificates of
completion. We wish the best of luck to all of the preschoolers who will attend Kindergarten
next year
Just hanging out. Getting ready for certificates.
Singin’ in the rain! I wish the rain would go away

Thanks for a great year!!
As our fifth graders move on to the middle school setting, we wish each and every one all the
best. Thank you for sharing a small part of your child’s life with us. Our parting message is the same
as our first message…reading is the thread that runs through every subject in every grade level.
Please encourage your child to read this summer so he/she does not lose out on valuable practice
time. Below is a graphic that empahsizes that point. Have a safe summer and take time to
READ…READ…READ!!

Our final Scholastic Book Fair of this school year was a Buy One Get One Free book fair. It was
the highest selling BOGO fair that I have had!! I hope everyone will enjoy reading the books they
purchased over the summer. Our All for Books Coin Challenge was a big success. Students brought in
more than $550.00. Gift certificates were given to students. However, if the student had an overdue
book another name was drawn. Mrs. Huff, Mrs. Nix and Mrs. Conway also won gift certificates
because their students brought in the most money. Our student winners were Brianna Dickens, James
Hall, Rylee Hickey, Elijah Johnson, Aaliyah Wilson, Aaron Bland, Sonaa’ Jones, Zachary Moss, Lucas

If your children are wondering what to read over the summer, you might check out the Kentucky
Bluegrass nominated books for 2014. These are books that students can read and then vote for their
favorite nominated book next March (listed on following page). The winners are always announced in
April.
Notices for overdue books were printed out on Friday, May 17. If your child has an overdue,
lost or damaged library book, please pay for these books by Tuesday, May 21st. I will be working
through May 24th
so the books or money can be brought later in the week but please take care of this as
all students must learn to take care of their responsibilities. At an average of $20.00 a book with 57
books still out the cost to replace these books is over $1,000.
I want to thank my awesome volunteers who have helped me with so many projects this year
including book fair, processing books, weeding, and inventory!
Have a great summer and keep on reading!
