a. Long version
Launched in 2013 by Aviel Silook, the Berlin Music Video Awards is an annual independent festival that has
already made its name in the filmmaking/music scene. Anyone can participate. Budget, label or name are not
relevant.
The Berlin Music Video Awards focus on quality, originality and diversity. The festival provides a platform for
talented filmmakers, supporting both unknown and famous artists and is a primary networking event for the
video and music industries in Europe. By that the BMVA is one of the few festivals, which put the focus on the
music video branch.
The original intention of the festival was to be a local event for musicians and filmmakers in Berlin but sur-
prisingly the event also became extremely successful abroad. About half of the nominees and guests are inter-
national. Thereupon a platform was born where regardless of popularity or expense of a music video, artists
could present their work to the public and were honored with recognition. The festival gives small directors
the chance to compete against big Hollywood names and still have a chance to win. Various prize categories
from Best Director to Most Bizarre support this equality of opportunities.
Every year the festival moves into a new location to accommodate with the diversity and development of the
event. The first Berlin Music Video Awards took place from the 24th till the 28th of April 2013 in the Villa Neu-
kölln. Special guests of the first edition were Miss Platnum, DJ Ill Vibe (Seeed) and MC Fitti. The BMVA shown
up like a market niche, so Aviel Silook decides to keep his focus on the festival and let his other projects rest.
The following year the Platoon Kunsthalle functioned as the BMVA location from the 28th till the 31st of May
2014. In that year the event had already opened new press departments in England, France, Italy, Sweden and
Spain. Highlights of the BMVA in 2014 were the DJ sets from Leeroy Thornhill (ex member from The Prodigy),
and the performance from Son of Kick.
In 2015 the festival was then featured in two locations. The kick-off was held with great success in K17 from
the 25th till 29th of May 2015. The final gala and award show took place the 30th of May 2015 in Neue Hei-
mat. Both locations were well attended. In 2016, there were also two venues due to the high number of visi-
tors. The first three days took place at the Club Gretchen and the final evening with the awards ceremony took
place at the Columbia Theater. A cozy market offered food as well as products of local artists and designers.
Remarkable performer like Little BIG (Russia) or Housemeister (Boysnoize records) took part in the event.
2017 the BMVA stick to this concept of creating a combination of film festival, music event, cozy market and
networking platform. From the 17th of May to the 20th of May the Nuke Club represented the prefect venue
for this mixture. Artists like the Dirty Honkers, Sado Opera, Han Han with Hataw, Hila the Killa etc. performed
at the fifth edition of the BMVAs.
The Berlin Music Video Awards are continuously developing and growing. In 2013 we started with 1200 vi-
sitors and only two years later already had 4500 guests. Not only did the number of visitors increase, but so
did the quality of our prizes just as the final prize money for the winner of the category Best Music Video, who
receives 3000€.

The Berlin Music Video Awards, founded in 2013 by Aviel Silook, is an annual independent
Festival which has now taken a firm place within the music video scene. Independently
from language, genre, popularity or production costs of the video, the BMVA rely on quality,
originality and diversity. As a primary networking event for the video and music industry, the
Berlin Music Video Awards promote future cooperations between artists and filmmakers.
By that the BMVA is one of the few festivals, which put the focus on the music video branch.
From the start the festival was well received by the public. It is a platform where artists
are able to present their works to a large audience and are rewarded with recognition
regardless of their popularity, production costs of a music video.
The premiere of the Berlin Music Video Awards took place from the 24th until 28th May
2013 in Villa Neukölln. The following year the Platoon Kunsthalle functioned as the BMVA
location from the 28th till the 31st of May 2014. In 2015 the festival was then featured in
two locations. The kick-off where all of the nominated music videos were presented in full
length, was held with great success in K17 from the 25th till 29th of May 2015. The final

The first three days took place at the Club Gretchen and the final evening with the awards
ceremony took place at the Columbia Theater.
The Berlin Music Video Awards are continuously developing and growing which is a proof
for the necessity of networking platforms and events in the music video industry.
2017 the BMVA stick to the concept of creating a combination of film festival, music event,
cozy market and networking platform. From the 17th of May to the 20th of May the Nuke

RETROSPECT 2017
For four days, the Berlin Music Video Awards (BMVAs) were the
melting pot of various cultural scenes. Talented filmmakers met
live bands and diverse artists mixed with the guests true to
the motto: Big title, cozy platform! The dazzling winners of the
„Best Music Video 2017“ were Ilya Naishuller (director), Dimitry
Mouraviev and Ekaterina Kononenko (production) of the video-
clip „Leningrad - Kolshik“.
The program offered film screenings, concerts, burlesque shows,
fashion shows and panels, supporting the cultural diversity the
festival is known for. As always, main element and heart of the
festival were the diversified music videos, generating various
emotions ranging from joy to suspense, from grief to distur-
bance or from euphoria to surprise. Furthermore, the program
included music performances, such as the one of Italian artist
Candida Kandinskij‘s, the hip hop artist and „Heartspreader“ Hila
The Killa, the Filipino rap artist Han Han featuring the Hataw,
or the Pan-sexual and gender-fluid punk performance band
Sado Opera, as well as Burlesque shows by Banbury Cross and
Martini Cherry. Additionally, DJ Sisens created a beautiful at-
mosphere and got the crowd to dance at the „cozy market“. The
moderators David Hailey and Gad Baruch Hinkis lead through
the four-day event, entertaining the guests with fun and exci-
ting anecdotes.
The Nuke Club was the perfect venue for the BMVA – with its
long history (formerly K17) and as one of the biggest clubs of
the rock and gothic scene. Several floors and an inner courtyard
served as places for music video presentations, stages for artists,
but also places for casual chats or professional conversations.
