What is Berard Auditory Integration Training (AIT)?

A method to correct or improve auditory hypersensitivity, distortions, and delays in the signals that interfere with anindividual's ability to process auditory information.

The ears must work together in a coordinated fashion. If the

hearing in one ear is different from the other, the person mayhave auditory processing problems.

This lack of coordination between the ears contributes todifficulties in following directions, comprehending what is saidor read, and putting thoughts into words.

Who is a Candidate for Berard AIT

Berard AIT is often provided for individuals who have:

delays in learning and language development

    difficulties in processing sensory stimulation

    poor concentration and attention

    poor reading skills

problems with auditory processing and memory

    hearing sensitivities

The minimum age is 3 years, and there is no upper

Do you have to have an audiogram?

The audio testing provides information thatis used in selecting whether a narrow bandfilter is needed during the training sessions,

and therefore, must be accurate. Dr. Berard does not recommend this testingfor children under 5 years old.

If a person is not able to cooperate withaudio testing, but seems to be a goodcandidate for AIT based on behavior andhistory, the training can be done withoutaudio tests.

    What are the results?

Reports from parents vary on how soon changes arenoticed and what types of changes occur.

Parents often report a reduction in tantrums, soundsensitivity, echolalia, hyperactivity and impulsivity.

Parents also observe increased ability in followingdirections, attention, auditory short-term memory,speech/language skills.

Increased socialization, cooperation, self-confidenceand independence are also frequently observed.

Improvements in sensory processing, with a decreasein episodes of sensory overload are typically reportedby parents.

    Why Berard AIT?

Practitioners must be trained by Dr. Berard or an approved BerardAIT Instructor.

Practitioners must have completed their exams and Intern Period. Practitioners must be using Berard AIT equipment, currently the

Earducator or the Audiokinetron. Practitioners must be adhering to the Berard AIT protocol including

use of the current process for selecting filters for auditory peaks. Practitioners obtain Berard AIT audiotests when clients can

cooperate. Practitioners provide direct, on-site supervision of their clients

during AIT. Practitioners do not provide audio stimulation copied to CDs.

Practitioners do not provide booster sessions of Berard AIT. Berard = Integrity.
