Our carbon frames use only the highest quality

carbon fibre, but even this is not enough for us. The

advanced production technology that we use finally

results in extreme rigidity, the lowest weight and,

above all, superior handling. Once we had achieved

this, and agreed that the carbon frames finally

satisfied BeOne’s demanding criteria, we allowed

them to join the BeOne bike range.

Our carbon frames are designed for sport

and racing. The quality needed to achieve these

goals reflects the enormous confidence we have

in these frames. Riders can only perform to their

limits when they have full confidence in the

bike underneath them.

Double Chamber Technology_

The down tube is particularly susceptible to torsion,

which results in forward motion without a loss of

energy. Each pedal stroke causes immense pressure

on the down tube and bottom bracket. With DOUBLE

CHAMBER technology you can be assured that this

is reduced to a minimum and that your energy is

directed towards forward motion.

Normally a front fork is not an integral part of

the frameset. Most of the time, a standard fork

is sourced and added to the frame. For ultimate

handling and a really responsive ride, we believe

that the frame and the fork should be developed

together as one unit. The front fork is the nerve

centre of any bike as it transmits road conditions to

the hands of the rider through the handlebars. Our

forks have been designed only for our frames and

this has resulted in a perfectly balanced unit. As in

the case of the down tube, we have used DOUBLE

CHAMBER tubing for our front forks. Once again,

torsion is eliminated.

Front fork vibration has always been a major

problem in fork technology. The rider loses ‘feel’

for the road, there is excessive vibration on fast

descents and tight turns are not recommended. Our

DOUBLE CHAMBER technology reduces vibration to

a minimum.

For our down tubes and front forks, we use a

unique construction that we have labeled DOUBLE

CHAMBER. We have integrated a secondary

supporting internal carbon wall throughout the entire

carbon downtube to prevent torsion.

BB30_BB30 is a new bottom bracket standard that allows

the use of bottom bracket bearings up to 30mm

diameter. The BB30 spindle is stiffer stronger and

lighter compared to the current BSA standard.

BB30 is durable and increases power transfer and

torsional stiffness.

The AA Drink track- and cyclo-cross team

has merged with your women’s cycling

team, why is that?

The last two years we put a lot of effort in the

development of young riders and it was nice to

see the progression they made. Some women

we think have the potential to participate in the

Olympic Games in London. But with our small

budget, we couldn’t give them the facilities they

need to perform on the highest level. We were

too small to take the next step. That frustrated

me. After a long talk with AA Drink and BeOne,

we decided to merge the teams.

What are the advantages of this new

team?

We can save a lot on the overhead costs. The

women are racing in spring and summer and

the men in autumn and winter, so we just need

one rolling stock for example. This results in a

larger budget for this combined team. An equal

budget and facilities for both men and women.

It gives our riders the opportunity to just

concentrate on cycling for the next two years.

What are the goals for the team in the

future?

Participating, or even go for a medal, in the

World Championships in Valkenburg (The

Netherlands) in 2012 and the Olympic Games in

London!

Steven Rooks Classic in Belgium.

Are you still riding your bike?

For sure! Three times a week I go out for a ride.

I’d like to stay fit, but I also still love cycling.

It gives me energy after a hard day of work.

Once a year I participate in l’Etape du Tour

Mondovélo, a tour version of a stage of the Tour

de France, and a few times a year I race in elite

races in Sloten, The Netherlands. On my BeOne

bike of course.

You have your own cycling event for

seven years now. Why does it take

place in Belgium?

As a young rider I won Luik-Bastenaken-Luik in

1983 and that was my big break-through. It was

the perfect race for me, that’s why we chose

the Ardennes.

Can you tell us something about the

route?

There are two options in the Steven Rooks

Classic: a 100 and a 150 kilometres route. We

change the route every year. I like variety and

every season we try to find new and exciting

climbs. A few years ago we added the Cote de

Drolenval: a narrow road with a gradient of up

to 20 percent. It’s a killer!

What’s your favorite part?

The legendary La Redoute will always be part of

the Steven Rooks Classic.

You are coached by Leontien Zijlaard

ever. What is that like?

It’s great! When I started cycling in 2000 I had a

poster of Leontien van Moorsel above my bed.

When I was a junior Leontien asked me to join

the team the next year and you can imagine

that I didn’t have to think twice about that!

Leontien makes trainings schedules for me,

but I also learn a lot from her. How to live as a

professional cyclist for example.

What is your favorite race?

I just love to ride my bike and I like almost every

race. If I have to choose, I’ll pick the classics in

spring because they’re always tough. The Tour

of Flanders was a great experience, with so

many people cheering you on. Unbelievable.

Most remarkable victory?

The 2009 European Championship title under 23

in Hooglede-Gits in Belgium 2009. I didn’t expect

to win there, so that made it even better.

What do you want to achieve as a

cyclist?

I want to keep making progress and I dream of

becoming the best. It is not an easy goal, but

I work hard for it. And it definitely helps to be

coached by someone who used to be the best

herself!

The BeOne special. Designed for races on

the beach. Everyone who ever rode on

the beach, knows that you need a special

bike to conquer the elements. Our fully

equipped Beachbike has V-brakes instead

of disc brakes so salt water and sand have

Leontien.nl Cycling Team. Started off as

mountainbiker, was a professional road

racer, but switched to cyclocross after

the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.

Winner of the World Cup Cyclo-Cross

in Zolder (2008), two times Dutch elite

mountainbike champion.

Cyclocross, road racing,

mountainbiking, you do it all, but what

is your favorite discipline?

I’d love to compete in cyclocross races, and

I think I’m more talented for cyclocross than

mountainbiking, but in my heart I’m still a

mountainbiker. On a mountainbike you can

ride more exciting and challenging trails. This

summer for example I rode the Trans Pirineos

MTB Tour, crossing the Pyrenees from east to

west in eleven days. It was unbelievable. What

an experience!

What is your favorite race?

The World Cup Cyclocross in Zolder around

Christmas time. It is a special race for

me because I won it in 2008. The crowd

was amazing, I’ll never forget that. As a

mountainbiker I would choose the World Cup

race in Houffalize. The track is beautiful and

challenging, and there are always a lot of

spectators too. On the road my favorite race

is the Ronde van Limburg, in the hilly southern

part of the Netherlands.

What are your goals?

My goal is to get back on the level I was at two

years ago. I worked hard for that in the summer.

I want to ride a steady season and peak in

the Dutch national championships and world

championships.

What makes the two of you a good team?

Danny: We’re complementing each other, that

is the most important thing I guess.

Léon: I’m the fastest one and hope to score

in the speed disciplines and Danny excels in

the stamina disciplines. And we have a lot of

experience in the six-days, that’s important too.

Danny: Together we are a complete team.

What are your goals in the Six-days?

Léon: To become an established team in the

six-days and I hope that we can win at least one

event.

Danny: The six-days in our home-country The

Netherlands are most important to us. I always

like to ride in Rotterdam, Amsterdam and, since

last year, Apeldoorn. It’s nice to be the crowd’s

favorites.

What about the world championships in

Apeldoorn in March 2011?

Danny: It is not a concrete goal for me right

now, but you never know.

Léon: If we reach the level of performance I

think we will reach, I’d really like to participate

in the World Championships. It would be very

special because I grew up in Apeldoorn and

started my cycling career there.
