‘Grease’ is coming to Benwick
To celebrate this year’s Diamond Jubilee we
would like to invite all of Benwick to an evening
adult disco / entertainment and sing along film.
The plan is to commence around 7.30pm when
we will watch the film block buster Grease, this film will have the
words so a full blooded sing along / Karaoke style atmosphere is
to be encouraged. This will be followed by live entertainment by
the magnificent Jonny Dee of Radio Cambridge and the evening
will conclude with a Disco to the bitter end around 12.30am.
There will be a pay bar and burgers etc. will be available at some
point during the evening.
To make the evening a memorable event you are encouraged but
not obliged to dress up in Grease characters, so come on you Pink
Ladies, ‘T’ Birds , you Sandy’s and Danny’s let’s see you out in
Benwick in style.
The aim is to make this event a free event for the residents of
Benwick, so please come out and enjoy the evening. To secure
your place ( these are limited ) on a first come first served basis
there will be a £5 booking fee – then on the night you will receive
this £5 back in bar vouchers. If all tickets are not reserved by 1st
of
May then they will be made available outside the village – these
tickets will not qualify for the £5 refund on the night.
Please book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment!

The ‘Royal’ Quiz
Test your ‘Royal’ knowledge of ‘Kings & Queens’ through the
ages, the ‘Royal Family and Queen Elizabeth II’, the ‘British
Empire’ and other related ‘Trivia’. Categories will include
‘History’, ‘Geography’, ‘Entertainment’, ‘Sport’ and ‘General
Knowledge’ and will include ‘Picture’ rounds and other ‘Media’.
Team Registration will start at 7pm with the Quiz kicking off at
7:30, entry will be £2 per head, with teams of up to 6 and all
monies will be returned to the winners and runners up (1,st, 2nd
, 3rd,
4th
etc.), with the usual additional prizes.
The aim is to make this a fun quiz, so even if you think your
‘Royal knowledge’ is a bit ‘Pointless’, qualifies you for ‘Eggheads’
or makes you a ‘Mastermind’, you might be surprised at how the
round scoring affects your teams position? Just turn up on the
evening and have a bit of fun!
Monday 4th June – The High Street – a.m.
Benwicks 1st ‘Human powered Kart Race’
This is an opportunity for families, groups, adults,
children and teenagers to build and race box karts
(at least 4 wheel) that are human ‘push’ or ‘peddle’ powered, along
the High Street (whilst it is closed to traffic). ‘Fun’ or ‘Themed’
karts are especially encouraged!
Teams will include up to 6 participating members and races will
be held as time trials. Entry to the event is FREE! Diamond
Jubilee Medals and trophies will be awarded and the Scouts will
be assisting with the organisation and running of the event.
It should be noted that all entrants will be asked to sign a waiver,
indemnifying the organisers against all claims, damages, injuries
etc. so participants will be racing at their own risk! Karts will be
scrutinised before the event to ensure they are safe to race.
Monday 4th June – The High Street – p.m.
The Big Jubilee Street Party!
This is the main event for everyone in
Benwick, with tables and chairs (from
the Village Hall) laid out in the High
Street, bunting, flags and other
decorations.
Bring along your own picnic food (sandwiches, sausage rolls,
salads, maybe even some Coronation chicken) for an afternoon
party. A free Hog Roast (and alternatively hot dogs and burgers)
will also be available as well as a ‘cup cake mountain’, provided by
volunteers in the village.
Other entertainment will include; Music, a Bouncy Castle and
Treasure hunt (for the children), Games, Candy Floss stall and
face painting (tbc), all FREE!
A ‘Royalty through the Ages’ - Fancy Dress competition will be
held (Adults and Children), with judging during the afternoon. We
will also be announcing the winners of the ‘Kart Race’, ‘Decorated
Houses’ and ‘Royal Scarecrows’ competitions and presenting their
awards.
There will also be a table with leaflets and posters, updating you
on the progress of the ‘Parish Plan’ and giving you an opportunity
to provide feedback and initiatives for new projects and
improvements in the Village.
So let’s get together as a community, meet up with friends (maybe
make some new ones) and commemorate the Queens Diamond
Jubilee!
Don’t forget to enter the competitions and decorate your house
and/or dress a Royal scarecrow in your front garden.
To enter the ‘Fancy Dress’ or ‘Children’s Treasure Hunt’ just turn
up at the Street Party!
Tuesday 5th June – School Playing Field.
Royal It’s a Knockout!
This is a team event for all children from
year 2 who either live in the
village or attend Benwick Primary School.
Registration forms for this event will be
distributed early in the summer term or can be obtained by
contacting Mary Tyler via email at [email protected].
Once all registrations are received the committee with assistance
from the school will devise teams each with 6 children.
It’s a knockout is an annual event where children take part in team
games that involve such things as getting rhubarb out of custard,
standing in cold baked beans, and bobbing for apples. They all
have a fantastic time and get lovely and messy in the process.
Jubilee Medals and trophies will be awarded and we encourage
parents etc. to support their children Refreshments will be
available whilst the event is taking place.
