BFA + cleaning kit in right magazine pouch weapons sling
Scalable plastic bag between mess tins to use as dash bag
Duties of a sentry
3 types of sentry: Ground, chemical, air.
They are posted by day and night- pairs of an evening to protect anybody of troops -
to give early warning of enemy movement and check ID of any suspicious persons in
area.
As above, but with kit to help warn of chemical attack. Full IPE to be worn. Located
with air or ground sentry.
As above paying attention to air movements.
Number of sentrys posted is dependant on the tactical situation - in some
circumstances sentries can double up but only out of contact with enemy. Roster
made up by section C or 2/ic- one or other will post sentry.

PROCEDURE OF CHALLENGING/ PASSWORD+ TIME CHANGES.
ROUTE CARDS
SAFETY- cover from view, able to be in fire position, cover from f ire, minimal
obstacles on route, avoid dense woods.
TYPES OF COVER
DEAD GROUND- provides cover from view and direct fire, vulnerable to indirect fire,
remote ground senors and thermal imaging.
STREAM BEDS AND DITCHES- Good cover, however the enemy know this.
HEDGES+ BUSHES- Good cover from view, but thats all.
WOOD- Good cover from observation, but thats all.
BUILDINGS AND COMPUNDS- Small arms fire for limited time, in Afghan walls are
ninja thick.
FARMLAND- Animals are inquisitive.
Keeping direction at night
METHODS- Land marks- find something prominent in line with your bearing+ use
them rather than staring at compass.
PACING- know 100m pace

SIGHTS- SVSAT increases your limit of night visibility LNV- useful for 400m +
beyond in ambient light.
NVG- hoofing.
BINOS- only to section level.
COMPASS- best with map, get weapon out of the way
STARS- useful with no other landmark.
SKETCHES- useful with no other landmark
ROUTE CARD- best aid
Obstacle drills
Natural or man made hindering progress in field.
Man made obstacles are usually covered by direct and indirect fire
Cross arms are signal for obstacle. Point man moves up to edge and takes up left
arc.
Indication of targets
ARCS OF FIRE- Axis, L of arc, rights of arc, reerence points.
METHODS OF INDICATION
DIRECT METHID- split arcs
Reference points- self explan.
CLOCK RAYS- super impose clock face onto object on the ground.

T- Type of fire
M.L Survival.
You never know when the shit hits the fan.
