SUPPLIES• Bennett Tank pattern
• Knit fabric (such as cotton Lycra, Lycra spandex or jersey; amount according to chart ) • Fusible interfacing & 1/2”-wide clear elastic (amount according to pattern measurements)
• All-purpose thread
• Ballpoint needle
• Serger (optional)

PREPAREPrint and tile the pattern. Cut out all pattern pieces in the desired size.
From the fabric, cut out one front, back and facing on the fold and three bindings on the fold. Transfer all pattern markings.
From the interfacing, cut one facing on the fold.
Fuse the interfacing to the facing wrong side following the manufacturer’s instructions. Serge- or zigzag-finish the facing lower edge (1) .
Measure one shoulder seam, and then add 2”; record as the elastic length.
From the elastic, cut two pieces according to the elastic length.

CONSTRUCT
Use 3/8” seam allowances and stitch using a stretch or zigzag stitch unless otherwise noted.
Pin the facing and tank back with right sides together, matching the neckline and cutout edges. Stitch using a straight stitch (2) .
Clip into the seam allowance up to, but not through, the stitching at each facing interior corner (3) .
Press the seam allowance toward the facing. Understitch the facing (4) .
Fold the facing toward the tank with wrong sides together; press. Edgestitch the facing outer edge to secure (5) .
Position the back tank wrong side up on a flat work surface. Pin-mark at the pleat markings along the facing edge (6) .
Fold the fabric to match the pins and create a pleat, folding the fabric toward the tank wrong side; pin (7) .

Repeat to pleat on the opposite facing edge. Stitch along the facing edge using a 1⁄2” seam allowance to secure the pleats.
Overlap the back neckline 1/2”; baste (8) .
Position the tank front and back with right sides together. Center one elastic piece along one shoulder seam, aligning one elastic long edge with the back-tank raw edge (9) .
Stitch the shoulder seam.
Repeat to stitch the opposite shoulder seam using the remaining elastic piece (10) . Trim the elastic ends even with the tank edges.
Stitch each side seam (11) .
Pin-mark one binding widthwise center. Position the binding over one armscye with right sides together, aligning the pin-mark with the shoulder seamline. Distribute the remaining tape around the armscye; pin. Stitch, beginning and ending 1” from the side seam (12) .
Cross the binding short ends, and then mark at the intersection (13) .

1614Stitch the binding ends with right sides together along the marking. Trim the excess binding (14) . Press the seam allowances open. Finish stitching the binding to the armscye.
Trim the binding seam allowance to 1/8” (15) . Clip into the seam allowances along the armscye curve up to, but not through, the stitching line. Press the seam allowance toward the binding, and then understitch.
Fold the binding long raw edge toward the binding wrong side at the stitching line; press (16) .
Fold the binding toward the tank wrong side; press (17) .
Edgestitch the binding along the long folded edge through all layers.
Repeat to attach binding to the remaining armscye and neckline.
Fold the tank hem 1” toward the wrong side; press. Topstitch 7⁄8” from the lower edge using a double needle or zigzag stitch.
