BENEFITS• Students will have access to a wide variety of free resources instead of

purchasing book(s) for classes.• Students will save a great amount of money or could be used for other

educational tools.• Instructors can alter and add material to make it more relevant for the

course.• Instructors will be able to use resources created by experts in the field.• Did I say they were FREE?• Instructors could use OER’s for their own professional development to

increase knowledge in their field.• Can have the most up to date information.

CHALLENGES• Time is needed to search for OER’s.• Time needed to make changes and/or merge information.• An OER must be researched to make sure it has relevant and correct

information.• Student access to computers and/or internet to access the OER’s.• Course objectives and activities must match the content of the OER.• Some subjects may not be available in an OER.
