Benefiting the Junior Advisory Board Professional Scholarship Award
The UAB School of Health Professions (SHP) is one of the largest health professions schools in the nation. We offer more than 20 innovative programs at the baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degree levels within our five departments:
• Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences• Health Services Administration• Nutrition Sciences• Occupational Therapy• Physical Therapy
With several of our programs ranked in the nation’s top 25 by U.S. News & World Report and all of the school’s programs fully accredited by the professional accrediting agencies associated with the programs, our graduates are prepared to be leaders within their respective fields and the healthcare community.
The Junior Advisory Board (JAB) is a group of talented and energetic young alumni from across the school’s five departments. Their diversity creates a unique networking opportunity for alumni because it connects them with individuals from outside their industry and allows for innovative collaborations. All the members are under the age of 40 and have one commonality – a sense of pride to be a graduate of UAB SHP! The SHP members focus on connecting SHP alumni and raising funds for scholarships to impact our current students. This is their way of giving back to those who follow in their footsteps at UAB.
The Junior Advisory Board Scholarship Award was endowed in 2015 and awarded for the first time in 2016. The award assists recent SHP graduates with expenses associated with launching their career such as interview materials, certification exams and professional organization memberships. To date, the Board has raised $15,000 to establish this scholarship with a goal of raising $25,000 by 2018. These funds are raised through personal contributions and the JAB’s annual fundraising event – Dodging for Degrees.
Dodging for Degrees is a dodgeball tournament designed to bring the Birmingham community together for friendly competition. Last year, more than 80 players participated.
We invite you, your company or organization to participate and help further the mission of the Junior Advisory Board and School of Health Professions.
