WHEN AND WHERE WAS THE

STRUCTURE BUILT

The Confederation bridge was built in

New Brunswick Canada and started

construction in 1993 and finished in

1997.

WHY WAS THE CONFEDERATION BRIDGE

BUILT GIVE US SOME BACK ROUND

HISTORY

The Confederation Bridge was built to provide a

easy road transportation between New

Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Back in

the late 1950s all the way to the early 1960s

both governments wanted a way to get to each

other without using a train or a airplane. They

thought about a ferry or a steam engine. But

eventually they said lets build a bridge

WHAT ARE THE ARCHITECTURAL

FEATURES THAT MAKE THIS BRIDGE

SPECIAL

This bridge has many concrete pillars

holding archways that are dug all the

way to the sea bed using a device called

a Svanen. Then all those pillars and

archways are put to work and hold a

gigantic 8 mile bridge.

WHAT ARE SOME CHALLENGES THE

ENGINEERS FACED AND HOW DID THEY

OVERCOME THESE

The engineers faced a problem where

there bridge was going to be built on a

lobster habitat. They overcame this

problem by talking to marine engineers

and building around the habitat in a

special way.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE TO

COMPLETE THIS STRUCTURE

This structure took 4 years to

build from 1993 to 1997.

STRUCTURE

It takes 18 minutes to cross the

confederation bridge at 45 miles per

hour how long will it take to cross it at

90 miles per hour?

AWNSER

half of 90 is 45 and half of

18 is 9.
