Endocrine System:

The endocrine system forms an important communication system that serves toRegulate, Integrate and Coordinate a variety of different physiological process.

The processes that hormone regulate fall in to four areas:

1. The digestion, utilization and storage of nutrient2. Growth and development3. Ion and water balance4. Reproductive function

The Classical hormones fall into three categories:

•Derivatives of the amino acid tyrosine•Steroids, which are derivatives of cholesterol•Peptides, proteins which comprise the largest and most diverse class of hormones
