Childbirth Instructor Bios Lisa Follet received her BA in Sociology from Western Washington University in 2007 and has been a Licensed Practical Nurse since 2009. She has been supporting women through their pregnancies and postpartum as an OB/GYN nurse since then. Lisa became a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist in 2015, an International Board- Certified Lactation Consultant in 2016, a Certified Childbirth Educator through CAPPA in 2017, and an approved Gottman Bringing Baby Home Program Educator in 2018. She also has a private lactation consulting practice. Sarah Fowler attended Washington State University and received degrees in Sociology and Business Management. She continued on to Western Washington University, where she received a master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration. After a long career in higher education and some time at home raising her four kids, she became a Certified Childbirth Educator through ICEA in 2018. Diane Ripper is a registered Hypnotherapist, has an MFA in Creative Writing, and is pursuing certification in CranioSacral Therapy. She owns a private practice and specializes in helping women reduce anxiety for a more positive birth experience. She is the creator of “Hypnotic Childbirth,” an original online hypnosis course. She has taught English Composition online since 2000 and lives in Bellingham with her husband and two teenagers. Carolynn Slocum received her BS in Public Health from Western Washington University in 1996 and her childbirth educator certification from the International Childbirth Education Association in 2000. She has over 15 years of experience working as a childbirth educator. She is also a certified doula and has attended over 300 births since 2005. Breastfeeding Basics & Beyond CHFM 119Breastfeeding offers a baby an optimal start in life and provides lifelong health benefits. Accurate information and support are essential for a breastfeeding mother. This course is designed to provide the expectant woman and her support person(s) basic information necessary to initiate and to sustain breastfeeding, for as long as desired. Bringing Baby Home CHFM 120Bringing Baby Home is a research-based and research-tested psycho-educational workshop that is dedicated to improving the quality of life for babies and children by strengthening their families. In this workshop, those who are expecting a baby or already parenting an infant will learn how to strengthen their friendship, increase intimacy and affection, work through conflict with greater ease, create positive child interactions, and ensure quality involvement for both parents. Pediatric CPR for Family & Friends HLTH 114This course is designed to assist anyone desiring to learn CPR for personal reasons, but not needing a completion card for employment. You are encouraged but not required to bring a support person who is willing to help you practice various techniques and be with you through labor and birth. Your support person could be your spouse, partner, friend, relative or a doula/birth coach. Class fee covers both you and your support person.
