Who studies history?

• History is the study of humans of the past and historians are the people who study about humans.

• Archaeologist hunt for evidence buried in the ground.

• Anthropologists study how humans develop and relate to each other.

Stone Age

• Earliest period of human history is called the Stone Age in the Paleolithic period.

• These people were nomads- moved from place to place to find food.

Had long periods of extreme cold known as the Ice Age.

Life in the Paleolithic Era

• Men hunted while women cared for children and gathered berries, nuts and grain.

• Invented fire to keep warm and cook.

• People lived in caves and later learned to use poles and animal hides to provide shelter.

• Developed a spoken language and used art to express themselves.

Neolithic Times

• During the beginning of this time period people began to tame or domestic animals and began growing crops.

• Historians call this the farming revolution.

• People began to set up permanent settlements.

First 2 settlements

• Jericho (present day Israel and Jordan

• Catal Huyuk (Present day Turkey)

Technology

• Not all people farmed. Some people made pottery, mats and cloth and traded them for items they needed.

• People during this time continued to create new items. They created better farming tools and began working with different metals such as metal, copper, tin and bronze.

One Pager

You will have 3 minutes to read over your notes. You will then have to put them away until after you turn in your activity.

I will place you with a partner.

You are your partner will create a one pager.

I will give you and your partner one sheet of paper.

On my paper you will draw one large picture that describes something from the lesson you learned.

You will then write 5 words around the picture that describe the lesson. Your words do not have to describe your picture.

Last, you will create a title that sums up the lesson and write it at the top of your paper.

You may use markers, crayons and color pencils --- Be creative!
