• Change in warfare: introduction of the longbow

• Use of peasant soldiers makes knights obsolete and contributes to the end of feudalism (one of the defining characteristics of the Middle Ages)

• People began to think of the king as a national leader (similar to the change that occurred after the Crusades)

• Taxes were raised to pay for the war, which caused the peasants to revolt

• Also called the Plague of the Bubonic Plague

• Because so many serfsdied, the living ones asked for raises which the nobles resisted

• This led to peasant revolts

FUN FACT:

• Before the Black Death, people were buried in Church graveyards, which were more like markets than cemeteries. People spent time in and around the graveyard

• After the Black Death, bodies were buried in pits far away from the city (sometimes as many as five to a pit)
