Bell County 4-H will be having a Government tour on July 22, 2013 from 8:15am to 1:30pm.

(We will be leaving and arriving from the Extension Office) We will be learning about Bell County

Government and how it works. We will be touring Government buildings including an exciting tour of the

Bell County Jail from delivery to booking to release!!! Lunch will be provided and the tour will cost $5.

Please RSVP by July 1st to the Extension Office because only 20 spots will be open. No clover kids or

younger children will be allowed. Parents who are interested in coming are asked to come and we would

love your assistance in driving youth to the various locations. (Drivers must be Adult Volunteers for the

2012-2013 year). We will also be doing a community service project where we ask each of you to bring ½

dozen or more cookies in a Ziploc bag to give to the jail/police workers in appreciation for keeping our

community safe! For those doing a recordbook, this would be a county community service project. Those

who cannot come can still make cookies for service project and bring them by the Friday before the event

or the day of. Come and enjoy an exciting tour and learn about your government!

Chef Day Camp is a great opportunity to learn more about the careers of food! This year we hope to have a trip to a local restaurant where we will learn how to make their items, how to run a restaurant, and hopefully try their

items. Then we hope to learn more about garnishing at the workshop!

The date for the workshop will be the second full week in August (most likely 12 or 13th). Please check the

July-August Newsletter for more information or the workshop website (will update website as soon as we know

something). Cost of the workshop will be $10 which includes lunch and workshop supplies.

Pound Cake Workshop

We will be having a Pound Cake Workshop on July 12 at 10am at the County Extension Office. Registration will be $5 and be due July 1st. More details to follow

Recreation Day camp is here!! And it is happening on July 25 at CEO, 9-12 am. We will be

playing games and getting to know one another. 2013/2014 Recreation club officers are

strongly advised to come as we will be teaching some fun games you can play at your club.

In order to attend you will need to bring at least one canned food item as a donation to

Helping Hands. Be sure to wear clothes you do not mind getting wet/sweaty. We will be

having a lot of FUN! Hope to see you there.

Summer 4-H Clothing Day Camp

Dates: July 29-30, 2013

RSVP Deadline: July 1, 2013

Cost of Workshop: $15 per or $25 for 2 kids (includes lunch both, workshop and service materials)

Bring: Sewing kit (with sewing scissors), Beach towel (neon to match straps)

Day 1:Community Service- Turbans for cancer patients and Neck Coolers for soldiers

Workshops- Towel Totes, Neck Coolers, Turbans, Storyboards

Day 2:Tours/Field Trips

Clowning Workshop! Have you ever wanted to learn what it is like to be a clown!? You are in luck! Bell County 4-H will

be having a clowning workshop on July 26, 2013, from 9am-12pm, at the Extension Office. We

will limit the number to 36 youth. Cost for the workshop will be $20 which includes 3 juggling balls,

face paint kit, balloon animals, snack, and a T-shirt. The RSVP deadline will be July 1 or until the

spots are filled. RSVP must include the $20, T-shirt size, and age and can be made by going by

the County Extension Office or mailed. (Sizes go from YS-XXXL). Please: We

ask that if there are clover kids (ages 5-8) coming that they MUST be

accompanied by an adult (Adults are welcome to come and if they want a

t-shirt, they pay $10). Those allergic to latex and those afraid of clowns are

discouraged from coming.

4-H July 4th Float Would you like to promote 4-H at the 4th of July Parade Celebration in Belton, on July 4, 2013!!! Bell County 4-H will

be entering a float in the parade and we would like to invite Bell County 4-H members and their families from across

the county to come walk/ride in the parade.

Please wear your Bell County 4-H T-Shirts. If you do not have one we have some available for

sale in the office.

If you would like to participate in the parade and help with decorating. The committee will

be meeting on these dates:

June 3, 6pm at the CEO

July 4, BellTec (next to Strike Zone in Belton), 8am

Clover Fun Day Date: July 16th

Time: 9am-12pm

Location: Bell County Extension Office

Cost: $5

Age: The Clover Kid fun day is for all clover kids from ages 5-8 years of age. If the kids are going to be 5 before August

31st and not 9 by August 31st they are invited to attend.

This will be a 4-H fun day for clover kids. They will be doing fun food snacks, arts

and crafts, and learn a little bit about 4-H. It will be a lot of fun!!!

Cake Decorating Workshop

This year we will be providing 2 cake decorating workshops on July 15 and July 17, 1-4pm, County Extension

Office. RSVP Deadline of July 1st Both workshops will be $5 and will include the icing and cake. Below is the

information:

July 15: Icing Class- We will learn the basics of buttercream icing and decorating cakes. Ages 8-11. (Older youth

can participate but primarily geared for these ages).

July 17: Fondant Class- We will learn the basics and some advanced decorating with fondant. Ages 12-18. (Only

open for these ages)

Texas 4-H is pleased to announce that registration is open for all four of the regional Golf Challenge Events that will be

hosted state-wide in 2013. Please see below for dates and locations for each of the regional events:

2013 County Camp County Camp for Bell County 4-H is set for July 8-10, 2013 at Brownwood. Register Now! Online registration

allows payment of a $25 non-refundable deposit through June 14, with balances due by June 23. Registrations

June 15 -23 require full payment at:

The fee will be $175.00 for youth and $80.00 for adults. T-Shirts are available for sale during registration, we will not

have COUNTY 4-H shirts this year. Please also see the Bell County 4-H website for more details.

The Bell County 4-H Clothing Board is collecting new or gently used sewing scissors to send to Rwanda. These scissors will go

directly to women who are sewing handicrafts to support themselves and their families. Your gift of a pair of scissors will help create

opportunities for these ladies to generate income and better their lives. Bring your scissors by the CEO anytime during the month of

4-H Banquet The 4-H Banquet is set for August 24, 2013, so please mark your calendar. The banquet cost will be FREE. We also need

pictures for the slideshow. Pictures can be emailed to [email protected] or burned on to a CD or flash drive and

dropped by the Extension Office. The last day to accept pictures will be August 2nd. Pictures are for the slideshow which

is a great opportunity to show what clubs and 4-H members have been doing all year. Please make sure and give pictures

so your club and your family are in the slideshow!

Need to have more family meals together?? Want to help 4-H make some money?

Bring your family to Fuddruckers this Spring!

All you have to do is pay for your meal and drop your receipt in the basket labeled

“4-H” and 4-H will receive money!!

Fuddruckers locations are:

Temple in the Mall (Proceeds go to Bell County 4-H)

Killeen on 190 (Proceeds go to Military 4-H)

Steer Validation

Steer validation for 4-H and FFA members will be held June 25, 2013 from 4-7 p.m. at the Bell County

Expo Center. All exhibitors who plan to show at the State Fair in October, the Bell County Youth Fair, or

any Major Livestock Show in 2014, must validate your steers on this day. A parent or guardian must be

present to complete paperwork.

Recordbook Judging

We will be having County Recordbook Judging on June 21st. It will be held at the Extension

Office from 9am to finished. We will provide lunch to those who are still here during that hour. This

is a great way to learn more about recordbooks and give you ideas on how to do one. We will be

judging Williamson & McLennan Counties books again this year, so all volunteers must be adults

and it does not matter if your kids are doing a book. If you would like to participate as a

recordbook judge please send an email to: [email protected]

I will send you more info about district and state when the time gets closer.

Calling all PHOTOGRAPHERS! Do you enjoy being outdoors? How about

photographing interesting people, animals, and activities? If so, put on your tennis shoes, fill your water bottle, and grab a hat, sunscreen, and your camera and

join us for a day of outdoor fun - community service style!

The Bell County 4-H Photography Advisory Board is hosting a State 4-H Community Service activity providing photography coverage for the National Wild Turkey Federation’s Women in the Outdoors

Event, held in Bell County. This day-long event takes place on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Hilliard Ranch located 11 miles south of Rogers, TX. 4-H photographers will be magazine photographers for the

day, taking photos of the ladies in action as well as the group photos. The photos will be used in local and state advertising as well as published in the National Wild Turkey Federation magazine and online

newsletters!

The event begins at 7:30 a.m. and lasts until 5:30 p.m. and is packed with activities including: Archery, Bow fishing, ATV, Outdoor Dutch Oven Cooking, Astronomy, Shotgun, Dog First Aid, Woodworking, Calling and Tracking, Car Care, Fly Fishing, Handgun, Kayaking, Knot Tying, Duct Tape Handbag

Making, Rifle, Map & Compass, Outdoor First Aid, Sewing, Raised Bed Gardening, Texas Hawking, Trailer Backing, Wood Turning, and Welding! Many instructors will allow the 4-H photographers to try

the activity once photography of the class is complete (some classes have clothing requirements or age limits for participation).

Wear appropriate outerwear for any weather and bring: camera, hat, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, refillable water bottle, and lawn chair or stool (optional). Lunch will

be provided! No advance sign-up is required and the event is free of charge. For more information, contact the Bell County

Any 4-H exhibitors who plan to show turkeys in 2014 at the Bell County Youth Fair,

Houston, San Antonio, or Star of Texas Fair, must order birds no later than June

3, 2013. Birds must be ordered in multiples of 5. For more

information, contact Pam in the Extension Office at 254-933-5305.

State Fair Validation This will be held June 25, 2013 at the Bell County Expo Center from 8:00-8:30 p.m. Anyone

planning to show a lamb, goat, barrow, or steer at the State Fair of Texas must validate these on

this day. Also, remember that exhibitors must also enter the State Fair in August through Randall

Rakowitz at the County Extension Office or with your Ag Science teacher.

Leadership Lab

When: June 26-28

Where: Texas 4-H Conference Center

Who: All participants must be at least 13 years of age by the start of Leadership Lab and cannot

exceed the age of 19

How much: $200 per participant

Registration Information: Registration will be held on 4-H Connect (http://texas4-h.tamu.edu then click

on 4-H Connect.) If you do not know your password, please put your email in that the office has on file

then press forgot password. It will send it to the email. If you do not know which email you have on file,

please call Rhettlee at the Extension Office.

Registration will be held from May 1 – May 31, 2013 at midnight.

OFFICER ELECTIONS: One of the major events of Leadership Lab will be the election of officers for the

District 8 4-H Council. Refer to the standing rules for eligibility. Council Officer applications are due to

the District Office by May 31, 2013 (postmarked). Refer to the officer election letter for further details.

Tractor Supply Fundraiser

We would like to thank all the 4-H members and their families for helping with raising funds for the

Tractor Supply Fundraiser!

The Temple Store raised over $1800 and the Killeen Store raised $1036!!!! 2 days before the

event was over the Temple Store was 9th in the Nation for sales

and Texas was #1 and Temple had only raised $1,411.

Great job!!!!

Stripes Convenience Store

We will be getting a new Stripes Convenience Store this year which is a new fundraiser opportunity for Bell County 4-H. The Ambassadors went to the groundbreaking in May and had a great time meeting the people of stripes! We look forward to working with them in the future with more fundraising!
