The mission of the texas Cavaliers Charitable foundation is to enCourage, foster support and ConduCt aCtivities

and programs, whiCh will benefit Children residing within the state of texas.

Dear Friends of the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation,

What an exciting year for the Foundation! It was just over 25 years ago that our founder, Fred Middleton, together with then-Commander Marshall Clegg, succeeded in establishing a foundation as the giving arm of the Texas Cavaliers. That first year, the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation handed out three checks totaling $600. This past April, the TCCF distributed over $456,000 to children’s charities in Bexar County, which pushed our cumulative distribution past $3,500,000. We got here through the hard work of our River Parade volunteers, our fundraisers and donations from our membership and friends.

I have the honor of serving as President of the Foundation and in my five years on the Board I have seen the lasting impact that our dollars have had on the children in our community that need it the most. Our voting board members are teamed with representatives of the five most recent Cavalier classes for the purpose of vetting and visiting the many charities that ask for our help. On one of these visits I was introduced to the fine people at TEAMability, a 2015 charitable honoree. TEAMability is the only organization in South Texas to provide severely disabled children with the long-term specialized services they need, with no financial burden to their family. The day I visited, a little boy was taken from his wheelchair and much to his delight was placed into a special harness, suspended from a track in the ceiling that allowed him to feel his feet on the floor. A flashing plastic ball held his interest as he struggled to move toward it and pick it up. I instinctively reached out to hand it to him, but Barbara Goldman, TEAMability Executive Director, stopped me, saying, “Don’t help him - he really wants to do this himself.” Throughout my visit I could hear his laughter. He never gave up on trying to pick up that ball.

There are so many stories like that, of people in our community helping children who are disabled, physically and sexually abused, and struggling with severe poverty. There are children who, for whatever reason, have been removed from their homes and are being cared for at the The Children’s Shelter, or are being counseled through the grief process at Children’s Bereavement Center. There are teen mothers who have found a safe place to await the birth of their children at Seton Home. There are children who, given the help and support they need, will soar on their own. These are but a few of the charities we have supported over the years, but the need in our community is huge and growing.

I believe that in the years to come, that the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation will continue to grow and make a significant impact on the charities that so desperately need our help. I believe that the fine organizations that we help support will continue to make these children’s lives better. I believe that that little boy is going to pick up that ball, just as a teen mother will complete her education and an abused or neglected child will overcome and accept one of the many hands that we have helped to provide.

Here’s to the next 25 years!

Sincerely,

James H. TravisPresident, 2015 - 2016

Dear Cavaliers,

It has been a great honor and pleasure to represent the Texas Cavaliers as King Antonio XCIII. Fiesta is a time for San Antonio to celebrate our proud heritage, wonderful traditions and diverse culture. During Fiesta, King Antonio and The Cavaliers visited local schools, military bases, hospitals, charitable organizations and other Fiesta events with the message “Believe to Achieve.”

The Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation has worked hard to make our philanthropic efforts meaningful for children. Texas Cavaliers believe in the future of all children and work to ensure opportunities for them. As King Antonio, I had the honor of presenting $456,500 to 52 children’s charities!

The growth and success of our Foundation depends on every Cavalier, from our River Parade volunteers, to our generous sponsors and other donors. Due to these extraordinary efforts, we continue to increase our annual giving and grow the Foundation’s corpus. Special mention goes to the dedicated Foundation Board of Trustees who lead the Foundation’s fundraising programs, review grant applications and manage our investment portfolio.

This past Fiesta I saw the direct effect we are making in the community through the Foundation’s support, but I also recognized the community’s great need for our continued generosity.

I ask each of you to please take time to learn more about our Charitable Foundation. With concentrated efforts of our membership, our Foundation can continue to grow and impact a greater number of children in need.

Sincerely,

Mark M. Johnson, Jr.King Antonio XCIII

The Texas Cavaliers proudly welcome the class of 2015. These 14 men listed below will form the backbone of our 2016 River Parade volunteer workforce through their assistance and labor. Each new member is highly respected within the business and professional community and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Cavaliers. We believe that in years to come they will provide a tremendous source of leadership for the future activities of the Texas Cavaliers and the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation.

The Texas Cavaliers River Parade is a quintessential San Antonio event. This first parade of Fiesta is produced by the Cavaliers for the enjoyment of more than 250,000 visitors to downtown San Antonio. It is the largest generator of funds for the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation and represents the culmination of thousands of volunteer hours.

“Believe,” the 2015 Texas Cavaliers River Parade, enjoyed a beautiful night with perfect weather, lively music and spectacular lights. Fifty-one floats provided entertainment to the thrill of onlook-ers lining the river and watching on television. The following individuals and companies contribut-ed to the success of the parade as sponsors and float underwriters.

The Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation Board of Trustees believes that every dollar donated to the Foundation should go directly toward assisting children in need. To that end, the Board produces two annual events to directly offset operating expenses and support annual giving. First is the TCCF Golf Tournament, an invitational event held each year on the last Thursday of March; second is the TCCF Silent Auction held during the annual September New Member Picnic.

Children’s Program

For 17 years the Texas Cavaliers have hosted the Children’s Program to celebrate the children the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation directly supports. Through the generous underwriting of individual Texas Cavaliers and local businesses, 860 children from 17 participating charitable organizations enjoyed the 2015 River Parade with a party, dinner in their honor and special seating.

military Program

Each year the Texas Cavaliers show appreciation for the men and women serving in our Armed Forces during the River Parade. We are grateful for their sacrifices made in defense of our country, and show our support by providing more than 1,200 River Parade tickets to active military personnel through the generosity of individual Texas Cavaliers and corporate sponsors. Our guests include wounded warriors from San Antonio Military Medical Center and their families and caregivers as well as fellow military personnel from Lackland, Fort Sam Houston and Randolph military bases.

First resPonders Program

The Texas Cavaliers established the First Responders program as a way of showing gratitude to the men and women of the San Antonio Police and Fire Departments. Each year, we purchase River Parade tickets for the members and families of the SAPD, SAFD and Bexar County Sherriff’s Deputies with donations from companies and individuals that share our desire to honor them for supporting our community.

Unlocking Omar’s CapabilitiesWhen Omar entered the Visual Skills Development Early Intervention Program at TEAMability, the 4-year-old did not know how to “learn to look.” He had never watched

a ball roll, reached for an object in wonderment, or looked into the eyes of his mother. Through work with skilled teachers within the specialized environment of TEAMability’s Learning Center, Omar discovered glittering balls, neon lights, and the eyes of his loving mother who exclaimed, “He’s looking at me! My 4-year-old sees me.”

Soon, Omar discovered that he is able to move his hands toward objects, determined to “play,” and eager to discover and touch his world. Omar cannot talk, walk, or sit up

alone, but he now tries to roll toward objects he sees. This opportunity has allowed Omar to discover his abilities and to experience the joy of success.

TEAMability is the only organization in South Texas dedicated solely to meeting the needs of children with severe multiple disabilities and their families.

Through TEAMability’s Visual Skills Development Early Intervention Program children experience activities that encourage looking and reaching to touch objects to explore and understand the world around them. The organization’s unique model combines

the expertise of therapists and highly skilled educators, work-ing together with parents, to help our community’s most disabled children discover their abilities.

Through Thristian’s Eyes“From the day I was born until the age of six my mother, brother, and I lived from pillar to post. I cried many nights not knowing where I would sleep, what I would eat, or if we would be harmed. While I faced the challenges of not knowing my father, how to make friends or celebrate birthdays; average kids lived without worry.

That changed when my grandparents enrolled me in Boys & Girls Clubs, where I found the courage to come out of my shell. I have grown into a strong, confident, college bound young woman, with a passion to lead and serve my community.

Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio has been my foundation to a build a great future. They have been my stability through this shaky life and my motivation to give back to my community and those who need me most. They have been my friends, my Christmas-es and my birthdays, all which I didn’t have until I joined the Club.”

In 2015 nearly 10,000 youth in San Antonio benefitted from the Boys & Girls Clubs’ programs and 99% of them stayed in school, progressing to the next grade level.

The Great Futures! Program at Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio offers year-round educational and risk prevention programs in a safe, fun environment at six clubhouses. There are three priority

objectives: academic success, good citizen-ship, and healthy life-styles. Along with the many activities, youth receive positive guidance and interact with role models concerned about their behavior and success.
