Beliefs and Values – Where Am I on the Spectrum?

On the Political Spectrum, I agree more with the right side. A capitalist society is fair and grants

individuals more responsibility. It is up to the individual to make their own decisions.

With a conservative government, society gives everyone equal opportunities to either succeed

or fail. This ideology is best because people are free to advance their careers and make more money.

Those that fail only have themselves to blame.

The role of government is limited in a capitalist society. This is beneficial because when

governments have too much control, their power is inevitably abused. Along with a limited government

is decreased taxation. Taxes should be the same for everyone, rich or poor. Successful people have a

right to their money because they earned it.

Punishment is more drastic with a conservative government. Individuals make the choice to live

according to the law or not. They are aware of the consequences. If they choose to break laws, they

have to take responsibility for it because the social contract has been broken. Punishment has to be

more severe in order to encourage people to follow the rules set out for them.

Socialism is not the right way for people to live together in a society. Liberals support high taxes

in order to create a safety net for the less fortunate. This is unfair because the government is taking

away the individual’s choice and using their money to help someone they have most likely never met.

Successful people work hard for their quality of life and they deserve to keep it.

A liberal believes that some crimes are not the perpetrator’s fault. This is not reasonable

because the individual committed the crime and made somebody a victim. Therefore, they must

recognize the fact that they broke the law and accept the punishment. A crime has still occurred even if

the person who did it was not capable of control.

I have right leaning tendencies because I do not like thinking that a government has control over

my life. Governments take advantage of their authority and eventually become corrupt. I get this idea

from newspaper articles and social assignments that explain how governments and people in positions

of power exploit the people beneath them. I also agree with socialism because I believe in the idea that

human beings are generally selfish and can’t be trusted. Overall, a capitalist society is much better than

a socialist society.
