Being Substandard Triggered DePuy Hip Recall?

Johnson & Johnson (J&J), the mother company of DePuy Orthopaedics that manufactured the ASR Hip Systems, is having a dilemma at the moment as it faced its second trial, still claiming that the artificial hip they distributed in the market was not unreliably designed, media report says. In their first case to go in court was at Los Angeles, wherein in the company shell out $8.3 million to pay compensatory damages claim to former Montana prison guard Loren “Bill” Kransky over its recalled hip implants.

Its unwavering repudiation that the ASR hip project were not faulty– the ASR XL Acetabular System and the ASR Hip Resurfacing System – got a lot of people curious because the typical impression of every person is that, if and when a big company pulls out one of its products in the market, there is something wrong with it.

He also claimed that the DePuy unit knew its ASR hip implant had design defects and hid them from doctors. Nevertheless, this allegation of concealing the data from the physicians and not appropriately advising the community did not convinced the Los Angeles jurors who did not grant the $179 million worth of punitive damages claim to castigate Johnson & Johnson.

Just recently, another case was lodged by professional nurse Carol Strum, a native of Illinois, claiming that the company failed to inform about the risks of the implant. It is considered the second case against Johnson & Johnson that is already being tackled in the Illinois court on March 11.

Strum, 54, blamed the company of not properly informing its consumers about the risks of the hip implant. This complaint is raising questions and controversies again on whether this might be another blow to the company and more financial losses.
