Being in the Way There is a bigdierence betweengetting in someonesway and being in

the way. When aservant o Abrahamwent to fndRebekah as a brideor Isaac, he had

been praying that the Lord wouldmake his journey successul (Genesis24:21). I love the King James Version

rendering o verse 27: I, being in theway, the Lord led me to the house o mymasters brethren. The Lord wants toguide us as we pray about His plan anddesires that we walk beore Him andtrust His angels to make our journeysuccessul (Genesis 24:40). God steers

a moving car, not one which is standingstill. As we are in the way o ollowingand serving Him, He has an amazingway o surprising us with His direction.

As Janet and I were in the waypreparing to serve in the Lords church,The house o our brethren, we were

both attending Southwestern BaptistTheological Seminary. Though we wereriends, I had not considered datingher until I sat next to her in Chapel onFebruary 12, 1975. I spontaneouslyasked this lovely, young Rebekah togo to dinner. This is why we celebrateour frst date on February 12 and makeit a very special day!

We need to pray or our singles and ouryoung people to be in the way o theLords house and not get in the way oGods work, and that the Lord will guide

all o us. The way in the Genesis passagewas a word reerring to a journey or awell-traveled road. As you ollow thetruth and the prioritization o Matthew6:33 (Seeking frst the kingdom oGod and His righteousness), then allthese things, including God-appointedrelationships, will all in place i it is the

Lords will.

We also are called to be in the wayo honoring our Masters house andkingdom. We urge you to join our

journey not only in membership but invision, commitment, prayer, and giving.

The Lord is doing a great work in thisplace, but we must pray like Abrahamsservant: O Lord, please grant us successand show loving kindness (Genesis24:12). May the Lord make our journeyprosperous (Genesis 24:21). Dont getin His way, but get in and on the way.He will then say to us, Come in, blessed

o the Lord. Why do you stand outsidesince I have prepared the house and aplace? (Genesis 24:31).

By lifting our voices in intercession for the people of Haiti, we can petition Gods

intervention in this desperate time of trial and tribulation. Through prayer we can

have a life-changing impact upon the helpless, homeless and hopeless people of

Haiti. We must pray for their physical and spiritual well-being in the days to come.

John the Bull Bramlett is a ormer American Football

linebacker who played or the Denver Broncos, the Miami

Dolphins, and the Boston Patriots in the AFL, and the

Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL. He was a two

time AFL All-Star. Bramlett is a member o the Tennessee

Sports Hall o Fame.

They will be speaking in the Chapel on Sunday, February 14

This mission is a support ministry or amilies who are

called to adopt children domestically and internationally.

Adoption is a Great Commission priority. Some Christiansare called to adopt an orphan, while others are called to

equip and support those in the process.

Throughout the Scriptures, the people o God have been called

upon to minister to and bless children who are orphaned by death

or desertion. Thereore, it becomes an act o simple obedience

and expression o the love o God.

Looking for ChampionsVolunteer Leaders

Champions are church members who are needed tocoordinate/lead many ministries within First Baptist. This

week we are highlighting:

DivorceCare

DivorceCare is a video seminar series featuring some ofthe nations foremost Christian experts on divorce and

recovery topics as seen from a biblical perspective. Thevideo seminars are combined with support group

discussions. In addition, DivorceCare for Kids helpschildren whose parents are separated or divorced,

providing them help with healing and encouragement.

The volunteer champion will be responsible for

scheduling support groups for adults and children,recruiting & assigning leaders for the groups, and stayingabreast of new offerings from the ministry.

The weekly commitment is expected to be four hours.The champion can be a seasonal resident.
