Dear Parent/Carer Welcome to our weekly Highlights and the final week before the summer break! Last week we held our annual Sports Day and Celebration of Excellence events, both of which were once again a tremendous success. Also, last Friday 12 July, a group of thirty-four Year 7 and 8 students departed the Academy to spend the weekend away at the PGL Centre in Liddington near Swindon. During their stay they will be involved in a wide range of outdoor activities and experiences. The group return this afternoon, and I am sure there will be many early nights had this evening, from the students and the staff! As we enter the final week of this academic year, things certainly don’t slow down at the Academy, and we have another busy week ahead. We start this afternoon by holding our annual Senior Citizens’ Summer Party, for members of our local community. This valuable community event wouldn't be possible without the dedication of our staff at the Academy, who are continuously willing to go above and beyond. A special thank you to Mrs Hillary for her hard work and dedication towards leading on this special event. Also this week, we stage our annual ‘Carnival’, which always ensures the excitement levels are high! This will culminate on Thursday 18 July with some of the students performing a variety of entertaining acts to the whole school. As you are aware, every student from every year group sat their examinations during the week beginning Monday 1 July, as part of our whole school examination week. Since then staff have been busy marking papers and writing the subsequent reports. These reports will be issued later this week and will be used as the focus point for discussion in your childs first ParentsEvening next academic year. However, if you have any questions before this, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Head of Learning or specific subject teacher. I look forward to seeing many of you on 15 and 22 August for the A Level and GCSE results days, and I am confident that there will be lots of happy students celebrating! I wish you all a safe, happy and relaxing summer break and look forward to seeing the children returning safely in September. Here’s to the summer holiday ahead! Dear Parent/Carer

Welcome to our weekly Highlights and the final week

before the summer break!

Last week we held our annual Sports Day and Celebration

of Excellence events, both of which were once again a

tremendous success. Also, last Friday 12 July, a group of

thirty-four Year 7 and 8 students departed the Academy

to spend the weekend away at the PGL Centre in

Liddington near Swindon. During their stay they will be

involved in a wide range of outdoor activities and

experiences. The group return this afternoon, and I am

sure there will be many early nights had this evening, from

the students and the staff!

As we enter the final week of this academic year, things

certainly don’t slow down at the Academy, and we have

another busy week ahead.

We start this afternoon by holding our annual Senior

Citizens’ Summer Party, for members of our local

community. This valuable community event wouldn't be

possible without the dedication of our staff at the

Academy, who are continuously willing to go above and

beyond. A special thank you to Mrs Hillary for her hard

work and dedication towards leading on this special

event. Also this week, we stage our annual ‘Carnival’,

which always ensures the excitement levels are high! This

will culminate on Thursday 18 July with some of the

students performing a variety of entertaining acts to the

whole school.

As you are aware, every student from every year group

sat their examinations during the week beginning Monday

1 July, as part of our whole school examination week.

Since then staff have been busy marking papers and

writing the subsequent reports. These reports will be issued

later this week and will be used as the focus point for

discussion in your child’s first Parents’ Evening next

academic year. However, if you have any questions

before this, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s

Head of Learning or specific subject teacher.

I look forward to seeing many of you on 15 and 22 August

for the A Level and GCSE results days, and I am confident

that there will be lots of happy students celebrating!

I wish you all a safe, happy and relaxing summer break

and look forward to seeing the children returning safely in

September.

Here’s to the summer holiday ahead!

20 Day Challenge Reward Day

We have had a very busy half-term with many fantastic events such as Sports Day, Carnival Week,

Celebration of Excellence and the residential trip to PGL Liddington to name but a few. Indeed, due to this,

it has become very difficult to ensure all students who successfully completed the 20 Day Challenge were

able to be part of the Rewards Day as promised. We had originally penned in last Friday 12 July, but

unfortunately some of the successful students were away at PGL. Therefore, to ensure that every

successful student is in attendance at school, we have taken the decision to stage the Reward Day in the

new academic year. The 20 Day Challenge Reward event will now take place on Thursday 19 September.

Winners will attend school in non-uniform and spend the day taking part in a number of different exciting

activities. We apologise that we have had to reschedule this event, but we are keen that every student

who passed the 20 Day Challenge should be rewarded.

On Friday 21 June over one hundred Year 11 students celebrated the end of their time at

Highcrest at our annual Leavers’ Prom. This year it was held at The Kings Hotel in Stokenchurch.

The students enjoyed a three course meal and Awards Ceremony, then danced the night

away. With around twenty members of staff attending as well, it was an amazing party

atmosphere and a thoroughly good night. Mr Garden and I would like to wish all leavers the

very best of luck in the future and hope to see them next year for the Certificate Evening

towards the end of November.

On Thursday 11 July a group of Year 9 and Year 10 students went to Rock Assembly at Wembley Arena.

Rock Assembly is an annual event that attracts thousands of students from across the country. It combines

education, inspiration and motivation for the future with fun, memorable experiences.

The Careers and Futures Fair is followed by a full-scale arena rock concert production. This year Professor

Green was the headline act. Mr Evans, our Careers Leader said, “The purpose of this visit is to raise

awareness of the careers and higher education opportunities and the Futures Fair is attended by many

household name employers and universities. It is also lots of fun and a great way to celebrate the end of the

school year.” Highlights included Dell’s Formula 1 racing simulator and Sky TV’s mobile broadcast studio and

free ice creams. Other companies or organisations

included Rolls Royce, Barclays Bank, Siemens, Penguin

Books, Dyson, Waites Construction and the RAF and

NHS.

It is organised by Transformation Trust. You can read

more about that organisation here:

weather was on our side! A fabulous day out and Highcrest is very proud of the excellent behaviour and
