Even before this change, we saw a significant reduction in the amount of glass placed in the recycling cart, and an increasing amount brought to our Recycling Drop-Off centers. Dropped-off glass is crushed into aggregate for use in local infrastructure and landscaping projects. Thank you for helping make a needed change to the curbside recycling program! Plans are underway for more glass drop-off sites, making glass recycling more accessible across the County.

The following services should be requested no later than 6 a.m. on

your normal collection day. Schedule online at recycling.arlingtonva.us/residential or by using our mobile app. Or call the DES Contact Center at 703-228-5000, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

Cart Services • Cart services, including repairs and exchanges to

County-owned carts, take place on your collection day.

• Please note: Once older 96-gallon trash carts are no longer serviceable, they are replaced with 64-gallon carts. Additional carts may be requested for $2/month via our website, or by calling the Customer Contact Center at 703-228-5000.

Scrap Metal + Appliance Collection• There are no fees for curbside collection of small appli-

ances such as toasters and blenders or small metal items.

• A $10 flat fee per collection applies to major appliances including refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dish-washers, air conditioners and water heaters.

Electronic Waste Collection• Small and loose materials should be placed in a small rigid container labeled “E-Waste.”

• Most electronics collected curbside are free of charge, but fees apply to CRT computer monitors ($15) and CRT televisions ($20).

Car Battery Collection• There are no fees associated with this service.

Car batteries should never go in recycling or trash carts.

Large Unbundled Brush Collection• Branches and logs should be no more than 10 feet

long and 18 inches in diameter. The root ball or mass of soil surrounding the root is not accepted and will not be collected.

Wood and Leaf Mulch Delivery Mulch can be ordered online at recycling.arlingtonva.us/ residential/mulch and is delivered for a fee based on the size of delivery. Deliveries are made Monday through Friday (except holidays), from 7 a.m.–3 p.m. Mulch fees are applied to your quarterly bill.

Curbside Customers All County ResidentsServices Available by Request

The curbside services that follow are available only to residents with weekly trash, recycling and yard trimmings collection provided by the County. These residences are primarily single-family homes and townhomes.

Weekly Collection ServicesTrash, recycling and yard trimmings collections occur on your scheduled trash day each week. Have all carts out no earlier than 5 p.m. the day before and no later than 6 a.m. on your collection day. If you do not know your collection day, please call the DES Customer Contact Center at 703-228-5000 or visit tinyurl.com/refuse-collection-map.

Recycling • Place clean and empty recyclables loose in the blue

recycling cart, your own personal container (20-32 gallons) or in cardboard boxes weighing less than 50 pounds.

• Do not place plastic bags, food, liquids or grease-soaked materials in the blue recycling cart.

• Do not place glass in the blue recycling cart. Glass should be taken to one of the recycling drop-off locations or placed in the trash cart.

Yard Trimmings

• Place yard trimmings in the green organics cart, biode-gradable paper yard bags, personal containers (20-32 gallons) or in bundles up to 4 feet in length and weighing 50 pounds or less.

• For large amounts of brush or limbs longer than 4 feet, see Services Available by Request on the next panel.

• Yard trimmings in plastic bags will NOT be collected.

Trash • Trash that will not fit in the black trash cart can be placed

in plastic bags and set curbside.

• Large items, such as furniture and mattresses, can be set curbside for collection with your weekly trash. Note that bulk items weighing more than 500 pounds are not accepted curbside.

• Materials such as lumber, mirrors and sheet glass need special preparation for collection. Visit our searchable “Where Does It Go” database at recycling.arlingtonva.us for additional instructions.

Do not place lithium batteries in the trash or recycle carts. They should be treated as hazardous and taken to the Household Hazardous Materials Facility (HHM) or a similar disposal site.

Whether you live in a single-family home, apartment, condo or townhome, the County offers additional services to all Arlington residents.

Food Scraps Drop-OffHelp keep food waste from the trash by using our food scraps drop-off centers. Create a nutrient rich compost product that is used for County landscaping projects in parks and gardens. Note: Compost is not currently available to the public. Bring food scraps to:

• Solid Waste Bureau, 4300 29th St. S.• Columbia Pike and Fairlington Village farmers mar-

kets, Sundays (seasonal)

Recycling Drop-Off CentersArlington County has two recycling centers that accept cardboard, paper,

plastic, metal and glass containers: • Trades Center, 2800 S. Taylor St. • Quincy Park, North Quincy Street and Washington Blvd.

Street SweepingThe County sweeps streets and bike lanes from April to October. This is one of the most cost-effective ways to prevent sediments and other pollutants from washing into our local streams and ultimately the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay. To find out when street sweepers are in your neighborhood, visit recycling.arlingtonva.us/ residential/street-sweeping.

Household Hazardous Materials + Electronic Waste Drop-Off

The Household Hazardous Materials (HHM) Facility accepts most dangerous solid, liquid, compressed gas and aerosol products used in the home. E-waste is also collected at the facility. Fees apply to each CRT computer monitor ($15) and each CRT television ($20). Located at: • Water Pollution Control Plant, 530 31st St. S. — every Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. (except holidays) or by appointment, 8 a.m.-noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Call 703-228-5000 to schedule appointments.

Paper Shredding, Inert Materials Drop-Off (Soil, Dirt, Bricks, Asphalt and Concrete) and Cart Washing

These free services occur on the first Saturday of every month (except on holiday weekends) at the Solid Waste Bureau, 4300 29th St. S. Residents can also make appoint-ments to drop off inert materials Monday-Friday by calling 703-228-5000. Cart washing is offered April-October.

Latex paint cans (less than 25% full) can be air dried, then put in the trash.
