Erin Hyer Tuesday May 20th, 2014 Two days before study abroad Well, the day is almost here. The day where I go to study abroad on the other side of the world in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. I’m going with 12, at the most, other students from ASU. I did a similar trip a little over a year ago. I was in my freshman year of college at BSC in Bismarck, North Dakota. Me, a few teachers, and seventeen other students spent a week in Italy going from city to city like Rome and Florence. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget. This time, it’s different though. This time, I am all on my own. You see, for the Italy trip, everyone travelled together. The teachers had everything laid out and everyone got on the same plane at the same time. This time, no one will be traveling with me. A majority of these ASU students will be leaving out of Arizona and eventually will end up in Marrakech, Spain. While some students will be meeting up at certain layovers and traveling together, I am leaving out of North Dakota and am going on totally different airlines as compared to everyone else. It is about 11 hours in full of layovers and over 13 hours of flying all together. This will be the longest time I have spent away from home on my own with new people I have yet to be introduced to. We, as a whole, will move from Spain, to Portugal, and then to Morocco in 3 and 1/2 weeks. This will probably be the biggest test of responsibility I will have had yet in my life, to travel internationally completely on my own. I pray to god that everything goes smoothly at the airports, the flights will be safe, that I don’t miss any flights, I find everyone once I touch down in Marrakech, and that my luggage doesn’t end up lost along the way. I pray that god will be looking down on me during this trip. I will need all the luck I can get.
