This year has been an exciting time for our students who have a passion for dance, with the introduction of three dance troupes. Under the leadership of our committed staff, Miss Brianna Robertson, Miss Alicia Smith and Miss Rebecca Woodbury, students have had the opportunity to extend their creativity in the fields of Jazz and Contemporary dance as part of the Stage 1, 2 and 3 dance troupes. Students have shown keen enthusiasm, working hard during their lunch times, to create entertaining and polished performances. As a result, our dance troupes will have a number of performance opportunities including performing at the Battle of the Primary Schools, the Epping Music Festival and the Beecroft Multicultural Fair, as well as a range of in school performances. The dedication and teamwork displayed by these children has been a joy to watch and I commend their application, effort and hard work. As these troupes continue to polish their routines, we eagerly look forward to seeing them perform in the coming months.

Recently, The School Photographer conducted a promotional photographic shoot as a complimentary service to our school. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Veronica and the team from The School Photographer for these amazing photographs of our dancers. More photographs of our school and students will be shared on our website and in coming newsletters. You can visit our new look website at www.beecroft-p.schools.nsw.gov.au You can also sync our calendar with your own by following the instructions on the front page of our site. Threatened Species Artwork National Threatened Species Day, Friday 7 September, is commemorated across the country to raise awareness of plants and animals at risk of extinction. The Threatened Species Artwork competition is an annual event that highlights this important cause. Many students from Beecroft Public School entered this competition and their beautiful artworks are currently exhibited in our school hall. Congratulations to Emily B (5S) who attended Glebe Town Hall last Friday, as one of 70 finalists in the Threatened Species Art Competition. Emily was awarded a certificate and presented with a copy of local Beecroft author, Georgia Cameron’s book, ‘Mikey the Powerful Owlet & Friends: Saving Byles Creek Valley & Beyond’. This year 2300 artworks from around the state were entered, so for Emily’s Little Whip Snake to be recognised at this prestigious event is a huge achievement. Thank you also to Mrs Pretorius for her passion promoting art and encouraging students to enter their art in competitions and exhibits.

P&C Working Bee The magnolias and flowers around the school are in bloom in readiness for the P&C Working Bee this Sunday 16 September. The community is invited to join us between 10:00a.m. and 2:00p.m. in making our school look amazing in preparation for the 2018 P&C Multicultural Fair. No prerequisite talent in landscape gardening is required. Bring a rake, shovel or broom or simply bring yourself. There are jobs, big and small. Together the Beecroft Public School community really can make a difference to our grounds in only a few short hours. Thank you to Ben M, our P&C Gardening Guru, for overseeing the plans for the day and to Lyndal V and the P&C Social committee, for organising the hospitality including the sausage sizzle lunch. 2019 Kindergarten Orientation On Thursday 20 September we will welcome our 2019 Kindergarten students and their parents to the first of three orientation sessions. At this first session our parents will stay in the hall and will learn about the many great opportunities provided by both the school and the P&C while the children go off to classrooms. We look forward to this great opportunity to make our new 2019 families feel part of the Beecroft Public School community. Tanya Rose Principal

It takes a lot of hard work and determination from everyone in the team to make a final, and it will be something that you will always remember, whether you win, lose or draw. Anyone for Tennis?

Canberra Excursion Canberra is a place of friendship, curiosity and sorrow. Three days is enough for bonds to strengthen and new friends to be found. There has never been one day where I have not felt close, connected or even jubilant with my friends. Curiosity also dominated most of the time I spent in Canberra. There are new experiences in places I have been before because now I am standing in that same spot I stood when I was younger. Time has passed, so has my age, but curiosity always remains with me.

The Australian War Memorial fulfilled my curiosity as well as causing sorrow. When you walk along those two walls full of names of deceased soldiers, it is saddening. We realise after walking around the exhibits that these people thought selflessly. They believed that saving that little child for even one day was what they believed in. It is a place for bravery, memories and sorrow. Of friendships lost and found in the most unlikely circumstances. Of curiosity to know more about the world. This is Canberra, and the spirit of Australia. Catherine P.

Students from our school have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civic and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $20 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards the costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Semester 2 Accounts Statement of accounts for Semester 2 were sent towards the end of August. Thank you to those families who have paid so promptly. Payments are due by this Friday 14 September. Deirdre Familton

Eco Corner Report Knights are saints too! With the rain and sun comes a bountiful harvest from the veggie garden. The knights harvested and bagged 14 bags of produce and

raised $27 for the garden, by selling the beautiful food to the parents Friday afternoon. There is a beautiful spirit within the knights at the moment. They all know what needs to be done, and they go about all their roles ,

chatting, singing and most importantly having fun. More beautiful fresh organic food available from the knights this Friday afternoon. Don’t forget your $2 for a bag of veggies.

Message from the President This Sunday is our very own Make Beecroft Public School More Beautiful – otherwise known as our last working bee of the school year before the Multicultural Fair. This is the opportunity to complete last chores and to tidy up so that when we come back into Term 4, everything is ready to go. Last working bee, we had a fantastic number of parents and children volunteer, and we managed to work through all the tasks by lunchtime. I’m sure that the Multicultural Fair Committee has an extra-long list this time round, so your support to make light work of the list would be marvellous! Please remember to bring your own gloves and some gardening tools; there are some available to share, but hopefully we will have more volunteers than communal gardening tools! We have some volunteers for a Uniform Review Committee, but we would like to have a variety of views on options to make shorts and pants options available to all students. With this comes the opportunity to review the overall uniform and bring a proposal back to the P&C and the school community for consideration. If this is something that you feel passionate about, please contact me and I will connect you with the Uniform Committee which will be kicking off after the Multicultural Fair. Upcoming events: Working Bee: 10:00a.m. – 2:00p.m. THIS Sunday 16 September P&C Meeting: 7:30p.m. Wednesday 19 September, in the Library Kindergarten Orientation Morning Tea: Thursday 20 September 11:00a.m. International Teachers’ Breakfast: 7:30a.m. Friday 19 October Multicultural Fair: Saturday 27 October 10:00a.m. onwards (Week 1 of Term 4) Melissa White Mobile 0412 441 626 P&C President

If you can chat, paint, weed, talk, build, dig, prune, listen, sand, chop, saw, or gossip, then there is a job for you this Sunday at the school working bee. We have mulch to move, gardens to weed, shrubs to prune, benches to paint, awnings to mend and benches to assemble. Something for everyone to help look after the environment our children learn in at our beautiful school. The working bee goes from 10:00a.m. – 2:00p.m. Free BBQ sausage sandwich and cake for lunch. Come for some of the time or the whole time. If you have a Bunnings garden implement that you need a justification for having, bring it along. All levels of skill or lack thereof are much needed. And the most important part of the day is it gives you the opportunity to spend time with other parents, to share your thoughts and experiences with. All kids welcome. No age limit on workers. Ben McSweeney

BBQ Volunteers Wanted For the school Working Bee on Sunday 16 September, we are looking for 4 volunteers to bring their own aprons and tongs, and assist in cooking up the sausage sandwiches from 12:00p.m. If you can help, please contact Lyndal (Class Parent of 3W) at [email protected]

Dear Parents and Carers, My name is Florence and I am the parent of a year four student. Every second year in our school, there is a Multicultural Fair. This year it will be held on Saturday 27 Oct. I am leading the Chinese stall and would like to ask for your support. In the Multicultural Fair, our students, their family and teachers will attend; there are a variety of stalls, selling gifts, books or food, to raise money for the school. In the last Multicultural Fair, we were grateful to have support from a lot of the parents and teachers, and the event was very successful. More than nine hundred dollars is needed to buy cooking materials for the Chinese stall. Through selling authentic Chinese food, we raised significant amount for the P&C funds. P&C is the community run by parents, the aim is to help the school to improve facilities, so that our children have a better environment. Not everything is funded by the government; for instance; the air-conditioning system, the lawn in the playground, electronic whiteboards, and the telephone system in the classrooms along with special materials are funded by P&C. Through this type of continuous improvement, our children can enjoy better study and play time at school. I am sure this is also; what you would hope for. Here I am sincerely asking your help by:

1) Donating AUD 20 per family (if you have more than 1 child in our school, you only need to donate $20). The money can be handed to the school office.

2) Please providing your email or mobile number to me if you are able to help out in the Chinese stall. 3) Attending the Multicultural Fair

You may have already heard that our Beecroft Branch is finally closing. With more and more activities being completed online, there is reduced need for so many branches in the area. I believe the ATM is remaining in place, and some transactions such as deposits may be available in the Beecroft Post Office. Alternative branches are available in Epping, Pennant Hills, Cherrybrook and Carlingford. This means School Banking is more convenient than ever for depositing your children’s savings, and there will be no change to our school banking program. Alice Clayton 0408 628940
