You are all amazing ambassadors for Beecroft Public School and I am sure you will continue to lead with the notion of ‘service to others’ throughout your lives. At this time it is also important to acknowledge the great work our current School Leaders carry out. Thank you to Lara C, Sam P, Isabel G, Thomas J, Leah D, Noah V, Danielle W and Hugo R for your outstanding service to our school. For those students who are currently looking for leadership roles there will be opportunities for all students to demonstrate leadership in their final year of primary school, including mentoring students through the Peer Support program, roles in library, band & strings, sport, SRC and supporting peer students in the playground. Leadership is best demonstrated through your actions and this does not require a badge or title. I encourage all parents to take the opportunity to discuss the notion of leadership with your children. Children learn the importance of leadership by watching television, reading newspapers and books and through teaching and learning programs taught at school. However, they also learn about the values of leadership through the dinner table discussions they have with you each night. Let them know what you think leadership is and the desires you have of them in terms of how you would like them to lead as they head into adulthood.

Our P&C has continued to generously support a diverse range of educational resourcing including ICT and interactive whiteboards, the MultiLit Program, hall and K – 2 sound system, hall lighting system, playground improvements, including a new grassed area and pergola and an outdoor learning and play space along the walkway. Our P&C has welcomed new and existing families into the school for events from orientations, movie nights and discos. Our P&C has worked tirelessly in making our school environment green and a space that children can enjoy. Our P&C committees provide a rich array of extra-curricula opportunities for our students to enjoy and a range of services that are offered conveniently here on site. For all that our P&C provides we say THANK YOU!

Farewell and Thank You for ‘Making Things Happen’ Our school is also fortunate to have community members who have led and served our school in many ways over many years and are now moving on to the next chapter, as their children grow up and move on too. Gavan Harrison, Obeid Hamid, Winnie Wong and Fiona Burton have been instrumental contributors within the Band and Strings program and I thank them for their passion and commitment to supporting music at our school. Fiona Burton has also coordinated the stalls and operations for the last 4 Mulitcultural Fairs. Fiona is a consummate professional whose detailed planning, organisation, communication and precision have underpinned the success of each event, ensuring that each MCF has showcased the very best of Beecroft community spirit and connection. Chris Parrish has served as BOOSH President for many years and I thank him for his significant contribution as well. There are a number parents who have supported the school community as class parents, MCF stall leaders or editors of the Year 6 Book who also leave us this year. Thank you to Sandra Campbell, Anne Farquharson, Kim Connor, Jennifer Lees and Belinda Jones for your service to students at our school. Tanya Rose Principal

Friday 7 December, 10:30a.m. for a 10:45a.m. start

Cherrybrook Technology High School

All families are warmly invited to join us in celebrating the achievements of all our students at our annual Presentation Day. We are very excited about our program this year as we will be showcasing the diversity of student talent with performances by our dance groups, choir, band and the whole student community. While not every child will receive an award, Presentation Day is a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together and celebrate the achievement of each student’s goals. As in previous years, our awards capture a range of qualities that define a successful learner and school member:

• Participation • Persistence • Collaboration • Excellence • Growth Mindset • Sporting prowess

B.A.Z.A Awards Congratulations to Leah D.O. for meeting the very tough selection criteria for a Beecroft Zone sport award. Leah will be presented with her medal on Monday 3 December at Normanhurst West Public School. Well done Leah! Tennis Champs at the ETDTA Competition The Term 4 Primary School Tennis Challenge was another successful night for Beecroft Primary School. There were a couple of short rain delays, however, the skies cleared and allowed the competition to proceed and finish on time. We had 37 children participate out of 108 competitors which was great to see. 19 medals were won and Beecroft also won the Primary School Challenge Shield based on the results of all the competitions held this year. This Shield will be presented to the school by the Eastwood Thornleigh District Tennis Association at a quad assembly. Parents and Carers are most welcome to be at this assembly; I will advise you of when this will take place.

Pedlar’s Parade Tomorrow Wednesday 21 November is our annual Pedlar’s Parade. Each year, the students in Year 6 hold a market stall between recess and lunch to raise money toward their Year 6 gift that they present to the school. The items on sale range in price from 20c through to $2. All students K - 6 are invited to purchase food items, craft and toys etc to help support the year 6 students at this time. It is suggested that students bring approximately $5-00 in coinage to participate in this event. Please note that this is a normal school day and students are required to wear school uniform. There is nothing like a group of garden knights happily working away in the garden to make you appreciate what a joy our school is. The tomatoes that were supposed to be ready did not quite ripen last week due to the rain but they will be ready this week. Even without

the tomatoes, the knights harvested spinach, rocket, kale, lettuce, sorrel, chicory and rhubarb. Ten bags of produce that was all sold at Friday afternoon pick up by our year 3 boys. They made $20, which all goes back into some more gardening utensils and some new seedlings.

Our cauliflowers are progressing well with three developing heads coming along. More gardening this Friday. Only four more weeks of harvesting left. All years 3-6 welcome. Lunchtime on Fridays. Ben the Green Garden Guru

Message from the President

Thank you all very much for your support over a very exciting year where we have managed to support Beecroft Public School with over $71,000 from P&C funds to upgrade facilities and learning programs not funded by the NSW Department of Education. Including:

Page 8: BEECROFT SCHOOL NEWSLETTER · 2019-10-10 · 2 You are all amazing ambassadors for Beecroft Public School and I am sure you will continue to lead with the notion of ‘servic e to

8

• Replacement air conditioning $30,000; • Accidental Counsellor Program - $1,000 • Roofing and Astroturf of the Amphitheatre - $10,000 • Creative Play Space Funds - $30,000 • Funds to support Leah DO – playing in the National Girls Soccer team - $250

It is important in the spirit of openness and transparency to let you know where the efforts of your fundraising are used to support the growth and learning that your children have access to. An update on the MCF results will be available in next week’s newsletter should you be interested. I would also like to thank the executive and our sub committees for their outstanding support, many of whom work behind the scenes to make many of the programs such as Canteen, the Uniform Shop Arts and Crafts Program, Boosh, Band and Strings Program, Class parents who supported the MCF committee and the Social committee all run like clockwork. This year has in addition to the fantastic MCF, we also ran 18 other events from the 3-6 Disco to a Movie Night, Mother’s Day stall and many, many morning teas. Thank you very much to all the parents who helped support these events by volunteering time or baked goods, barbeque skills and so forth. We wouldn’t have been able to better connect our school community without your support. Tomorrow night is our AGM, it’s your chance to consider joining our executive and being part of the team in 2019. I strongly feel that the P&C executive needs to continue to evolve with new ideas and new faces on the team to make sure that it reflects the broader school community. Melannie Hogan will be tabling nominations for all roles and is desperately looking to replace the role of secretary. This is a key role in the team and is really as complicated as you choose to make it, now that Mel has it organised. Mel can be contacted at: [email protected]. On a personal note, I won’t be nominating for the President role next year and would like to thank Tanya Rose and the school executive and the school community for making me feel so welcome in the role to date. It’s been a great experience, but I believe that it’s time for someone else to add their flair and passion to building connections between the school and community. Thank you for your support and all the very best in 2019!

Kindy 2019 children are eligible to join us in Vacation Care from January. This is due to children being cared for under a different learning framework in the year before they start school – which Boosh is not currently set up to provide. The name of any Kindy 2019 child who is booked in to December Vacation Care must be removed and parents will be notified that this has occurred. CHANGES TO SIGN IN/SIGN OUT AT BOOSH Regulation changes that come into effect in January 2019 have meant a change to the way families sign their children in and out of Boosh. We ask for patience and understanding as all staff and families adjust to this new system. .
