Celebration News – Friday 26th June 2020

Take a look at this week’s fantastic learning!

Beech class south

It has been a Roarsome week in Beech South!

We have really enjoyed our topic of dinosaurs. We’ve learnt all about various

dinosaurs and fossils, we even created our own fossil out of salt dough!

We discovered some amazing facts about a chosen dinosaur and wrote some work

about how we would feel if dinosaurs were still alive today.

With the weather being so Jurassicly wet we were unable to get outside for PE so we

took part in Cosmic kids yoga for PE along with a few dance off’s. We’ve even done

some catering here making microwave chocolate mud cake...YUMMY!

In Maths, Beech class learnt about fractions with Mrs Cottrell. We finished off the

amazing week with a live team meeting with the class and had a special guest…

Mrs Deacon for the Dino Party. We all shared cake in person and virtually, Mrs

Couthard read us a story to finish the party off.

Willow class

Acorns class

This week we have been learning all about rainforests.

We have been learning about where in the world

rainforests are located, all about the different layers of the

rainforest, deforestation and rainforest animals.

We have used this knowledge to create our own

rainforest animals. In maths we have been learning about

fractions including how to find half and quarter of shapes

and amounts.

Some super work well done willow class!

This week in Acorns class, our topic has been ‘Jungle’.

We have based our learning around the book ‘Rumble in the

Jungle’. We have used rhyming words, like the book.

For our topic work we have we have learnt about Rainforests and

the layers within them.

Donovan has had a brilliant time, completing some tasks from

Padlet. He then read his Jungle themed Mr Men book, and played

hide and seek in the garden, with his little figures. Donovan has a

brilliant imagination, where he then invented his own stories with the

Mr Men characters.

When he hasn’t been working, he has planted seeds and relaxed in

his pool!

Dylan has had one of his pet birds overseeing what he is doing. Very

relevant to our Jungle topic!

We are looking forward to some of you being in school on Thursday

and Friday for some more Jungle themed activities.

Pine Class

Hazel Class

This week we have started to learn about

Kenya! Edmund has done some fantastic

research and found out a lot of interesting

facts. In maths we have been learning

about money. Harry, James, Edmund, Sam,

Jamie and Reagan are experts already.

James did the science experiment this

week about filtering water. It was really

interesting. In life skills we had to tidy a

room in the house. If you need anyone to

tidy up for you Edmund did a fantastic job!

A really great week Hazel keep up the

hard work.

Pine class have been producing great work

both at home and in class. Bradley, Mason

and Sophie produced some lovely artwork

based on the Northern Lights in class. Jacob,

Jake, Mason, Tom B and Ben have all

produced excellent maths work on time and

money. Ben, Jacob, Ben has produced a

really exciting story based on a computer

game that he is designing at home. Sophie

produced a really lovely story about a

dragon. Mason has been busy this week

helping in the kitchen and participating in

our filtering investigation in Science (with

inventive use of an old sock). Tom B had a

great time helping out with some gardening

in LOTC as have Mason and Ben at home.

Jake produced a great fact file on the

Icelandic president, Vigdis Finnbogadottir.

Ben and Jake have followed and written

great instructions and Ben made a

wonderful Lego safari park to go with his.

Well done, Pine Class, great work!

Acer Class: Castles and Knights

This week, Acer class have been busy learning

about the past - Castles and Knights – in

particular the Battle of Bannockburn and

Robert the Bruce.

In English, we applied for jobs as knights,

blacksmiths and tacticians – have a read, the

applications are very persuasive!

In Maths, we have been learning how to add

decimals – in particular money and

measurements – such an important life skill

too!

Whilst sticking to the Scottish theme, we

enjoyed looking at the Artwork of Steven

Brown. We loved his McCoos and designed

our own in the same style!

As well as this, we have been playing lots of

cricket and even tried a game of Footgolf – it

was great fun!

On top of this, some of us have been busy

finding out about Castles and building their

own, creating Tartan patterns online and

meeting a super-cute tortoise!

We have loved welcoming Ben and William

back to class and yet again – real superstars!!!

Well done to you all!

Whilst learning at home children have taken part in a range of the same book and film

activities using Padlet as well as writing about special interests. Ethan was also able to

hatch and wave goodbye to his butterflies!

Larch Class Celebration!

What a fantastic week in Larch class! We now have only one of our wonderful classmates learning at

home.

Brandon, who is still learning from home, has got a lovely workstation set up and has been working

on his own story that he has been writing throughout the whole of this year! We are all very excited

to see the results.

In school we have had a history focus week so we

looked at a few famous historical figures are the

children have the task of finding two people who

they are interested in to research and report on

while learning at home this week.

In LOTC Zane created an amazing watermelon frog

full of delicious mixed fruit! What a perfect treat for

this lovely sunny weather.

Good job this week Larch class! Keep up the good work!

Squirrel Class South

Could it be Magic? Yes it certainly is!

Squirrels have had a magical theme on

Padlet this week which has included

writing a spell for friendship, crafting

magic wands from natural objects and

making fairy wing cakes.

Aiden decided to extend his home

learning on the topic of friendship by

making a ‘being’. His mum got the idea

from her own memories of primary school.

Aiden made a ‘being’ out of different

coloured modelling clays. Each colour

represented a different quality he would

like in a friend. You have chosen some

fantastic qualities Aiden – well done. It’s

great to see that one of the Springfields

rules is in your ‘being’

Acer Class (South)

Acer have been working so hard this week!

In English, we have been finishing our letters to Boris Johnson (such an important job

takes a lot of thought!) and then we started our work on the Butterfly Lion. We have

been writing diaries from the points of view of different characters, as well as eating

scones to make sure our senses were experiencing the same as the characters in the

story would be in Chapter 2. The children enjoyed them so much that by the time I took

a picture, only Jody had some left!! At home, we baked our own scones, too.

We have been making the most of the sun by playing lots of team games in PE and at

playtimes. It is great to see everyone getting more and more accurate in their skills each

week. We have also practiced some dancing moves too…I think Toby showed Mr Twinn

up in the dance off!!

A big reason for the boy in Butterfly Lion running away from school is a bully called

Basher B

The Therapy Blog!

Working on our emotions.

Students have been using different activities in their Therapy and Outreach sessions

this week to work through emotions!

What can happen when we hide and mask our feelings? One pupil has worked hard to demonstrate

this! This has taken a lot of time and effort!

Doing an activity together is a good way to talk freely and share our thoughts and

feelings! One student likes to bake!

And finally, using a student’s favourite character to show positives he achieved!
