Bedminster’s Secret Gardens Open Weekend 2019

We hope you’ll enjoy visiting the gardens open across Bedminster, Southville, Ashton and Windmill Hill. Get inspiration, enter a world of plants and see creative, productive and beautiful gardens that are normally hidden from the public eye.

Thanks to you and our advertisers, all the money we raise will help support local community gardening projects that encourage intergenerational work with young and older people. Please donate £2 at the first garden you visit and get a sticker to show you’ve given your support.

For any last minute changes to information in this guide or details of additional gardens opening but not listed in the brochure please visit: bloomingbedminster.org.uk, visit the Open Garden information stall on Saturday by Nat West Bank (North Street) 12-4pm or any of the gardens open on Sunday.

Please note that there are no toilet facilities at any of the private gardens, however there are toilets at Windmill Hill City Farm (garden 4 on the map), St Johns Ambulance on Raleigh Road (garden 12 on the map - Sunday only), and The Chessel Centre (garden 8 on the map) and there are several publicly accessible toilets across Greater Bedminster. Pick up a Toilet Map from our information stall (Saturday only) to find out where they are.

The Secret Gardens trail is part of the Blooming Bedminster project celebrating green and growing projects across BS3.

Community Gardens

The BS3 Wildlife Group aims to raise awareness about wildlife and to make the neighbourhood more attractive to a range of creatures. Gardening with high pollen plants is a key, both in domestic gardens and spaces like parks and allotments. Ponds are a ‘Good Thing’. The project is called My Wild Bedminster and is linked to the city-wide Avon Wildlife Trust’s My Wild City project. Members tend to focus on creatures that interest them, be that hedgehogs, butterflies, slow

worms or birds. Annual reports summarise winter garden birds (lots of blackbirds, but fewer finches) and butterflies where we have established a core of 14 butterfly species seen in 2017 and 2018. We are hoping to confirm this in 2019. Membership of the group is free and you can make a real contribution to the wildlife of Bedminster.
