A Message From Mr Robson It has been another busy week in the College. On Wednesday, the Upper Fourth pupils celebrated The European Day of Languages. There were many cultural activities on offer ranging from Flamenco dancing to a German Quiz. European cuisine was kindly provided by our catering staff. Pupils and staff were encouraged to greet, speak and say prayers in different languages. Thank you to the MFL Department for their hard working in arranging such a successful day. On the sports field I am delighted to report the College First Eleven defeated Harrow School 2-1 in the Independent Schools Cup and this afternoon at Brantingham Road we hosted the St. Bede’s Challenge Cup. Congratulations to the overall winners Hale Prep. The Sixth Form Tutor Evening was well attended by pupils and parents. The tutor has the academic and pastoral overview of your child’s progress and you can contact them or a member of the Sixth Form Team if there is anything you wish to discuss. Finally, thank you to pupils, parents and staff for their generous donations of cakes for the MacMillan Cake Sale. Lots of delicious treats were sold and all proceeds will go to what is a very worthy cause. BEDE'S NEWSSENIOR

Congratulations Hale Prep

We hosted our annual St Bede’s Challenge Cup Tournament this afternoon at Brantingham Road. This event caters for local Prep schools and it was a fiercely contested but enjoyable tournament for all. There were eight football teams and five netball teams vying for the trophies. The standard of play was extremely high in both competitions with Altrincham Prep beating The Ryleys in the final of the football tournament and Hale Prep taking the honours against Branwood Prep in the Netball. The combined prize for success in Netball and Football went to Hale Prep. All pupils and staff throughly enjoyed the event and are eagerly awaiting next year’s competition. Any schools interested in taking part, next September should contact our Admissions Officer: [email protected].

U3 Play In A Day House Competition

Last Friday, all students in the U3 participated in a challenge to perform a mini-play in the Academic Hall from page to stage in just a couple of hours. Upon receipt of the extracts from “Ernie’s Incredible Hallucinations” by Alan Ayckbourn, the students had to cast, costume and learn their parts very quickly for the afternoon presentation in front of a panel of judges. All three houses produced lively and entertaining shows for their audience but in the end, the overall House winners were Siena with the best indivdual award in that performance going to Seamus McGoff.

THE BEDIAN

ASSOCIATION 25 September

The Bedian Association Dear Parents, Teachers and Friends,

From our published diary of events, the next two main events on The Bedian Association Calendar are:

• Tuesday 29 September - The Bedian Association General Meeting• Friday 16 October- Prep “Spooky Disco”

As always these events need two key ingredients – support and participation.

The brand new Parents’ Café hosted our very first Coffee Afternoon which was well attended, with a buzz that was infectious! This is now our space, so please share any ideas you might have for how we can ‘customise’ our Parents’ Café.

The next Coffee Afternoon is Friday 9 October, 2.30pm – 3.30pm. The aim of the Bedian Association General Meeting, (Tuesday 29 September 6pm, Vaughan Library), is to bring together everyone able to contribute towards the delivery of events designed to both entertain and raise funds. We will be providing an update on the minibus at the general meeting. If you would like to propose other items for the agenda, please send an email to [email protected]

The “Spooky Disco” is aimed primarily at the Prep but it is an opportunity for mums, dads and carers to see if they have what it takes to win one of the best costume prizes! This event needs the input of both parents and pupils; before, during and after the event – in short we need helpers to translate the ideas into a ‘Spooktacular Event’!

Tickets are priced at £5 per person and Prep pupils will be receiving the promotional material next week. You have two weeks to purchase your ticket as the box office closes on Friday 9 October.

Thank you for your continued support and participation.Best Wishes,

The Bedian Association.

BEDE'S NEWSPREP SCHOOL

Prep Six Responsibilities

Congratulations to Halina Kloczko (not in picture) and Thomas Dench, Head Girl and Head Boy and to the Deputy Heads, Alanna Keane and Oliver Harrop. The four Prep Houses are represented by Garance Roule (St Matthew), Hollie Lee (St Mark), Samuel Case (St Luke) and Joel Senoo (St John). Sports Captains are Poppy Wright and Markel Mancisidor. They will be ably assisted by Vice-Captains Chloe Christou and Eric Cabello. Isobel Reynolds was chosen as Head of the School Council. The other council members will be voted in by their peers after hearing the manifestos of all candidates before the upcoming class elections.Head Prefects, Sophia Lewis and Filip Matasek, will oversee all form prefects who have been chosen to look after the younger classes at breaktimes. We fully expect the current Prep 6 pupils to perform their duties sensibly and responsibly and be excellent role models for the rest of the school.

Jodrell BankPrep 5 had a fantastic day at Jodrell Bank Observatory. Even though the weather was miserable, the experiences gained were wonderful. The day started with experiments in gravity, sunlight and the size of craters made by meteors. This was followed by a journey into our own galaxy in the inflatable Planetarium where we learned about the constellations, planetary orbits and why we have day and night. Finally we went to the Orrery where we discovered some amazing facts about our solar system. The children had a fantastic day.

Baby Brother

Our warmest wishes and congratulations to the Hibbert family on the arrival of Aidan Peter on 2 September, a baby brother for Sophia in Year 6 and Francesca in Reception class.

Chestnut CentrePrep 1 enjoyed a fantastic class trip to the Chestnut centre this week. Children were animal detectives using binoculars and magnifying glasses. They enjoyed exploring tracks, trees and nests in a woodland setting. They enjoyed gathering evidence of different animals in various habitats. Children discovered many practical facts and were given the opportunity to ask lots of questions; they even looked at real owl pellets and their contents!

Countdown Tournament 2015-2016

Forty-eight pupils from Preps 3-6 have signed up to compete in the inaugural Prep Countdown Tournament 2015-16. By the end of the Academic Year we hope to have found the school’s first Countdown Champion. The tournament is based on the long-running Channel 4 TV show involving word and number puzzles. The two contestants in each round of the tournament compete in three disciplines: letters rounds, in which the contestants attempt to make the longest word possible from nine randomly chosen letters; numbers rounds, in which the contestants must use arithmetic to reach a random target number from six other numbers; and the conundrum, in which the contestants compete to solve an anagram. The Prep Countdown Tournament is a knock-out competition, with winners moving through to the next round to face a new contestant. The draw has been made and the first match will take place this week between Reuben Paris and Sebastian Vega-Hidalgo. Good luck to all competitors!!
