STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE:

Thank you to everyone who donated items to Holdeman and Gililland schools. They were delivered

August 5th. Stewardship is now collecting items for a store at Gililland School. Students at Gililland Middle

School are encouraged to make accomplishments and when their goals are reached, they are given the

privilege of choosing an award/prize from the store. BSLC’s budget has allowances for community projects but

if anyone would like to give to this project, the list of items and container are located in Fuerbringer Hall. This

is our small way of helping in the community.

Believe it or not!! When God made us His children through Baptism, we became stewards. What does it

mean to be a steward of the Gospel? Telling others as stated in Acts 4:20: “We cannot but speak the things

we have seen and heard.” John 3:16 says it all: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten

Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” Stewardship can be a joyful

activity rather than a duty by getting involved, working together with God and being a faithful steward. In

1 Samuel 26:23 we read, “The Lord rewards every man for his righteousness and his faithfulness.” We look

forward to the Lord telling us, “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will

set you over much. Enter into the joy of your Master.” Matthew 25:23.

Hebrews 6:10: “God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have

helped His people and continue to help them.”

STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE has been given the opportunity to donate items to the Gililland Middle School

to supply their store with items that students can select from when they have accomplished certain goals.

BSLC’s budget allows funds for community projects, but if anyone would like to help donate, following is the list

furnished by the school:

Boys back packs

Girls back packs

Cardinal stuff for boys or girls

Boys sports miniature stuff as ASU flags or banners

Girls colorful socks

Girls costume jewelry

Erasers

Fancy pencils

Girls headbands

Healthy snacks: Low fat popcorn (pre-popped if possible), packaged nuts, variety crackers, baked

potato chips.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES:

September 2015 Trustees

The trustees have been busy with their usual chores.

There are plans to plant some flowering shrubs around the patio, soon as the weather breaks. This will

complete the patio project.

The Brunson Bros. have power washed the end of the church building, and capped off the rotted ends of the

beams. They will caulk around the kitchen windows, then finish up and paint the end of the building. This

project should be finished by the end of August.

We received a gift from a congregation member to put in a new door with a window for pastor’s office. We

will proceed with that, with council’s approval.

The trustees continue to do their best to keep our church campus looking God pleasing.

If there are any questions, or concerns, please speak to the trustees, or put a not in the trustee mailbox. The

trustee meetings are OPEN to anyone, so feel free to attend. Trustee meetings are the second Sunday of the

month after service, at eleven thirty.

[email protected] or 928-776-1690. http://www.campaloma.com/aloma-events/ Summary of July family WEEKEND event "The event entitled Disconnect to Reconnect held from July 10th to July 12th went amazingly well. We had 15 families in attendance, and we focused on both the children and their parents. Our goal was to offer these families a weekend in the woods, focusing on their relationship with God, themselves, and each other. We did this through a mix of fun outdoor activities, group Bible studies, and quiet individual time with God. All events, facilities, and meals were offered to these families free of charge. Many of the men and women came up to us after the event and shared how special the weekend was to them. Some of the topics discussed were: Romans 12, what is true wealth, how do we love those who hurt us, Forgiveness, Jesus' need to go off and Pray to his Father, and our need to do the same. The idea of Living Generously changed for the participants by the end of the weekend. LG went from meaning wealth, money, and possessions, to Forgiving generously, loving generously, and unceasing prayer. Thank you for giving us the ability to touch so many hearts. There were approximately 10 volunteers. There were more than 60 people in attendance (15 families), there were 5 hours in Bible studies and 3 hours in chapel and just singing Christian songs by the fire."

FROM PASTOR MISCH:

The Church: There’s a Christian nursery rhyme that goes like this. “Here’s the church. Here’s the steeple. Open the doors and see all the people.” Along with this rhyme, are hand movements that help illustrate the rhyme. I remember learning this nursery song as a child and coincidentally I learned this song at church. However, this nursery rhyme makes me wonder. When you think about church, what comes to mind? Does the illustration of this rhyme come to mind? That is, the church is a building with a steeple on it? Is the church a place filled with memories? Is it a location that we go to, or is the church something more? Paul sheds a little light on this in his letter to the Ephesians. In the later part of chapter 5 Paul talks about husbands and wives. But his main point is about the relationship between Christ and the church. Paul says, “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.” If the church stood for a static building then this is a very awkward thing Paul says because what would that mean? It would mean that Jesus died for a place. It would mean Jesus died for a location, for brick and mortar. But thankfully the church means something much more. The church doesn’t mean a location. it doesn’t mean a building, magnificent or small. It doesn’t mean an institution. It means something much more powerful and significant. It means people. Jesus did not die for four walls and a roof. Jesus died for us and understanding that comes with a realization that the church is not a location where we gather. The church is us and wherever we are. It is as Jesus says, “where two or more are gather there I am also.” Wherever we gather there Jesus is. Which means that we are precious to God. It means that we are the ones for which Jesus died. It means that he has made us clean and taken away our sins. A perspective that this frees us from the confines of a location. It frees us to be the church wherever we are. Understanding that we are missionaries with the mission of bringing the gospel to all people regardless of location.

Pastor Misch
