Pause your work here and work the following steps without fastening off.

Beak

Row 1

Using DK/light worsted weight yarn in orange and a 3.0mm crochet hook, ch7

Row 2

1sc in 2nd st from hook and in next st, 1hdc in next 2 sts, 1dc in last 2 sts – (6)

Fasten off and sew beak onto main body as per photo. If adding extra features like a different

coloured tummy worked in the round then make sure to sew that on before the beak so they over-

lap.

Wings (make 2)

Row 1

Using DK/light worsted weight yarn in the same colour as your main body and a 3.0mm crochet hook,

work 4dc into a magic circle, pull to tighten but not fully, ch1 (don’t count as st), turn

Row 2 (first wing)

[1sc, 1dc] in first st, [1dc, 1sc] in next st, [1hdc, 1tr] in next st, [1tr, 1hdc] in last st, fasten off and sew

onto main body.

Repeat for other wing but in reverse, so for row 2 do the following;

Row 2 (second wing)

Feet (make 4)

Row 1

Using DK/light worsted weight yarn in the same colour as your main body and a 3.0mm crochet hook,

work 6dc into a magic circle, pull to tighten but not fully, ch1 (don’t count as st), turn

Row 2

[1sc, 1dc] in first st, [1dc, 1sc] in next st, [1hdc, 1tr] in next st, [1tr, 1hdc] in next st, [1sc, 1dc] in first

st, [1dc, 1sc] in last st, fasten off.

Take 2 of your feet and sew them together, stuffing as you go. Repeat for other 2 feet to make 2

padded feet.

Finishing

Take two short lengths of your black yarn and tie 3 knots into the middle of each strand. Taking one

knotted length, sew each end into the front of your main body on one side and tie on the inside.

Repeat for other side.

Take some rice or hard beans like Adzuki beans and pop them inside the bottom of your beanbag

bird, you may prefer to place them in a small plastic bag first to prevent spillage but if your crochet is

tight enough this shouldn’t be necessary. Then stuff the remainder of your bird with some toy

stuffing. Now continue with round 34 below of your main body.

Round 34 (of main body)

*sc2tog* repeat from * to * until end, until all gaps are closed, sl st to close any remaining gaps if

need be

Take some lengths of DK/light worsted weight yarn in orange and sew one end onto a padded foot

and the other end to the bottom of your bird, hiding your ends inside the foot and main body. To do

this sew your ends through any part of your foot or main body, squeeze your foot or main body and

pull tightly, cut your remaining yarn and let your foot or main body bounce back, thus hiding your

ends inside.

And now you’re done!
