CHRISTY KRNAC TO SERVE INTERNSHIP AT BETHEL Christy Krnac, who has been serving at Bethel as part of her seminary Ministry in Context

requirement, will also serve her internship year here beginning in June. Pastor Krebill received

a phone call just before Christmas from Sister Becky Swanson, the head of contextual

education at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus. She was calling to find out whether

Bethel would consider sponsoring and Pastor would consider supervising an intern in 2017-

2018. The landscape around forming pastors in the ELCA is changing rapidly, and seminaries,

candidacy committees and candidates are all trying to adjust to these new realities. For

example, we had to wait a year before we received our first intern, Daryl Emowrey because

the number of students was declining even then. A year later, the primary reason that we

were asked to supervise Lucas Merritt was because he was restricted to Northeast Ohio, and

we all know that turned out very well.

This is what Pastor Krebill shared with council in January:

“I am very willing to serve again as an internship supervisor if I have your support to

have Bethel serve as the sponsoring site. Being open to the Holy Spirit’s movement in

unexpected ways has certainly been a blessing to all involved in recent years, and I fully

trust that the Holy Spirit will guide us this time as we consider this.”

The council was in unanimous agreement to give an affirmative response to the seminary for

having Christy serve as our intern for 2017-2018. We had to wait until we had “official” notice

of her assignment at the beginning of March to share this news. The funding for Christy’s

internship will come from the undesignated bequest fund, as it did for our previous interns.

Because of when she started the process, Christy only needs to serve a ONE year internship,

instead of the new two year process. Like Pastor Lucas before her, Christy already lives in the

Cleveland area with her husband and children. Look for an introduction to Christy and her

family in the summer issue of the BetheLight.
