About the Greendale Family YMCA

Our Mission

The YMCA of Central Massachusetts is an association united in a common goal to strengthen our communities and to develop the spirit, mind and body of all persons, regardless of means, through activities guided by and based upon our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility

Our Cause

We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. That’s why, at the Y, strengthening community is our cause.

Our Impact

Every day our impact is felt when a teen makes a healthy choice, when a mentor inspires a child and when our community comes together for the common good.

Our Areas of Focus

We strengthen the foundations of our community through:

Youth Development...nurturing the potential in every child.

Healthy Living...improving the nation’s health and well-being.

Social Responsibility...giving back and providing support to our neighbors.

The YMCA of Central Massachusetts appreciates and supports the dignity and

worth of all members of our community. We will nurture an environment that reflects,

respects and celebrates our differences and embraces the richness of our diversity.

Leadership Development

YMCA Leaders &

Jr. Leaders Club (Grades 6 -12)

The goal of Leaders Club is to

promote and enhance the

personal growth and social skills

of young people in order to

develop leaders who will be a

positive force in the community.

Starting each September,

members meet once a week and

work closely with peers and

advisors on skill and character

building activities, as well as

plan and organize club projects.

Club members will receive a free

membership paired with their

commitment of multiple

volunteer hours a month.

Meetings are held weeknights

from 5:00 - 7:00pm. For more

Andersen, Youth Development

Club Dues - $50 per Year

Youth in Government

(Grades 6 -12)

The purpose of the program is

to bring the workings of state

government alive to students.

It creates an opportunity for

students to discuss current

state issues with state

administrators, elected

officials, and students from

high schools and YMCA's

throughout the state.

Each conference is led by

teens elected to office by their

fellow delegates. Each state

provides facilities and

volunteers from various state

departments who act as

resources for the students

while they debate the issues.

The volunteers help guide the

students through mock

committee meetings. Students

debate and vote on the bills

that their fellow delegates have

written and presented. Bills

that pass in committee are then

taken to the floor of the House

or Senate for full debate and

vote.

Children will learn to proper

skills and techniques needed to

be an all-star baby sitter.

Wouldn’t it be nice to know

when your child is asked to

babysit someone that she

knows all the do’s and don’t of

what it takes to be a

babysitter?

ADULT FITNESS

Total Immersion BEGINNER Swimming: Balance-> Streamline-> Propulsion -> Mastery

Total immersion training starts with short repetitions of simple foundational ‘mini-skill’ and progresses in easily mastered steps to whole stroke swimming. As the body learns to incorporate new skills, the movements become less conscious and more automated, less mechanical and more graceful, allowing the swimmer to progress effortlessly in distance and pace while maintaining efficiency. Total immersion uses a mindful practice approach similar to yoga or Tai Chi.

Total Immersion ADVANCED Swimming: Balance-> Streamline-> Propulsion -> Mastery

The Total Immersion Advanced class is structured for the student who seeks to continue their improvement from what he/she learned from the Total Immersion beginner class. The student will learn more advanced skills in Propulsion, The Catch, 2BK, and Breathing. The student will also learn about swimming metrics in which TI calls “The Math of Speed”. These will include Stroke Length, Stroke Rate, Pace, Distance, and Rest Intervals. With these five swim metrics the student will learn their optimal stroke count, learn to hold stroke count consistent, improve the stroke count range, discover optimal tempo for racing. This knowledge will give the student the opportunity to design their own personalized practice plan.
