THE FULL MONTY – THE BROADWAY MUSICAL, with music and lyrics by David Yazbeck (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Bombay Dreams), and book by Terrence McNally (Ragtime, Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Catch Me If You Can) was produced on Broadway by Fox Searchlight Pictures, Lindsay Law, and Thomas Hall. Original orchestrations by Harold Wheeler, vocal and incidental music arranged by Ted Sperling, and dance music arrangements by Zane Mark, the World Premiere production took place at The Old Globe Theater in San Diego, CA. The musical is based on the Motion Picture by the same title released by Fox Searchlight Pictures, which was written by Simon Beaufay, produced by Uberto Pasolini and directed by Peter Cattaneo.
THE FULL MONTY – THE BROADWAY MUSICAL is now being directed by Calli Armstrong, with musical direction by Joy Kertland. The creative team includes costume design by Kelly O’Toole, lighting design by Chloé Fortier and set design by Elyse Malo. Produced by Beautiful City Theatre, BCT’s Artistic Producer is Natalie Gershtein, the Production Manager is Todd Hirtle, with Calli Armstrong as Artistic Director. THE FULL MONTY follows a group of unemployed, crestfallen steelworkers. Lost and in need of a quick way to make cash, the group works together to develop and perform a male striptease act, also picking up self-‐esteem, hope and the power of friendship along the way. On this heartwarming and hilarious journey, the group band together to overcome their fears and anxieties, all the while tackling struggles with body image, parenthood, discrimination, and self-‐acceptance.
BCT’s latest production aims to explore the objectification of men and women, and assumptions about body image, gender roles, aging, mental health, and the rights of single parents. In preparation for the rehearsal process, the cast participated in discussions of ‘safe space’ and workshops focused on ensemble building and movement. To reach a deeper understanding of the journey of their characters, the cast also took on the role of "choreographer" for all the dance numbers in the show.
THE FULL MONTY stars Adam Daniel Koren, Catherine Marmen, Chantal Bellavance, Dave Handelman, Irina Ghitulescu, Jamie Mayers, Jason Cola, Justin Johnson, Lanisa Dawn Farnsworth, Leslie Bronstein, Marc-‐André Poulin, Melissa Toussaint, Mike Melino, Stephanie Zidel, Tadzeo Horner-‐Chbib & Yvette Rambour. HISTORY OF THE FULL MONTY Based on the 1997 critical hit and Academy Award nominated British film set in the industrial town of Sheffield, England, THE FULL MONTY was adapted for the stage in 2000 by Terrence McNally and David Yazbek, and directed by Jack O’Brien (Hairspray, Catch Me If You Can). At that time, the show generated such buzz, that the San Diego production sold out 98% of the run before it reached opening night. Since then, it has gone on to successful productions on Broadway, in London’s West End, and in France, Italy and in Canada (in such cities as Toronto, Vancouver and Edmonton).
