We have found,down through the years, if a book is truly a bestselling book, it will be a bestselling book acrossthe board, via online stores and in brick-and-mortar stores.

Independent Publishers or Small Publishers are terms often used to describe publishers withannual sales below a certain level. Commonly, in the United States, this is set at $50 million, afterreturns and discounts. Independent publishers or Small publishers are also defined as those thatpublish an average of fewer than 10 titles per year, though there are a few who manage to domore.

The terms "independent publisher" or "small publisher" are often used interchangeably, with"independent press" defined as publishers that are not part of large conglomerates or multina-tional corporations. Defined this way, these presses make up approximately half of the marketshare of the book publishing industry. Many small presses rely on specialization in genre: fic-tion, poetry, or limited-edition books or magazines, but there are also thousands that focus onniche non-fiction markets.
