1 Scope of Service1.1 About BoxCryptorBoxCryptor is a cryptographic virtual harddisk that encrypts all data on-the-fly

using the AES-256 standard. Encrypted data is stored in an arbitrary directory

of your choice, e.g. one that is synced to the cloud like your Dropbox folder.

BoxCryptor is easy and transparent to use:

When saving files to the virtual harddisk, BoxCryptor encrypts them on-

the-fly and stores the encrypted files. When reading files, BoxCryptor

decrypts them in real-time so that they are accessible as any other

    unencrypted file.

    File-by-File encryption:

BoxCryptor works on individual files at a time and not on container files.

That means no need to resize volumes and no problems to synchronize

    or backup individual files!

1.2 New with Version 1.2 Support for multiple encrypted folders at once so you can have more

than one encrypted folder (only available in the Unlimited version).

Advanced Mode for modifying advanced options, mounting and

    unmounting of volumes, etc.

New wizard to guide you through the creating and opening of encrypted

folders which makes BoxCryptor even easier to use and avoids some

critical problems (e.g. accidentally overwriting the configuration file).

Performance improvements: using the BoxCryptor drive should feel a lot

faster now (especially for folders with lots of files).

    Label for the BoxCryptor drive

Here you can type in the label of the BoxCryptor drive.

Automount this volume when BoxCryptor starts

If checked BoxCryptor automatically mounts the chosen encrypted folder

    when it starts.

    Enable filename encryption

If checked BoxCryptor also encrypts your file- and folder names.

Otherwise they will be saved in plain text.

Enable key validationBy default, BoxCryptor refuses to mount an encrypted directory if the

password provided is not correct. With this option it is possible to disable

this validation and use BoxCryptor with secondary passwords. Users can

then have separate sets of files in the same encrypted folder. Because

BoxCryptor does not display files whose name did not decrypt properly,

only the files for the given password are shown. If you change your

primary password, the secondary ones will not work until the primary

password is the same as before! By default this option is checked.

    Enable recycle bin

If you want to use the recycle bin with your BoxCryptor drive you can

    check this option.

    Mount as fixed drive

BoxCryptor automatically detects if your encrypted folder is stored on ahard- or network drive and thus creates the virtual drive. To force

BoxCryptor to always mount as hard drive you can check this option.

For experts: Use an alternative configuration file

If you like to store the configuration file outside the encrypted folder you

can check this option and choose the location where to store the

    configuration file.

Important: By storing the configuration elsewhere than the root of your

encrypted folder the mobile BoxCryptor apps are no longer supported!

    /config

By default, BoxCryptor uses the .encfs6.xml configuration

file located in the root of an encrypted folder. By using

the this command line switch, you can specify which

configuration file BoxCryptor should use so you canachieve a better seperation of encrypted files and

    encryption information.

/debugCreates a BoxCryptor.log file on your desktop with

    additional debug information

/label To use this drive label

/mountpoint Mount the source folder at this drive letter

/nonFixed Mount BoxCryptor as a network drive

/password Use this password to mount the encrypted folder

/recyclebin Enables support for a recycle bin in the BoxCryptor drive

    /root Mount this source folder

    /translate

In translate mode BoxCryptor translates your file and

folder names. So you can see in your BoxCryptor drive the

encrypted and decrypted file and folder names. You may

need this if you want to restore files in your storage

    providers web interface.
