About some of BC Soccer’s Provincial Cups Keith Millar Cup

Keith Millar was the ultimate volunteer. During his early years he was a director with the Mainland League which was the forerunner to the Vancouver Metro Soccer League. As a great believer that all adult players should have a place to play, regardless of skill level, Keith later established the North Shore Intermediate Men’s League. He was also a driving force for BC Soccer’s participation in the BC Summer Games where he chaired the soccer portion of the games when it included adult age groups. Keith was not only involved with the Men's side of the game but also gave a lot of time to the Women's game, helping establish it on the North Shore. In September 1977 the new Field house at McCartney Creek Park in North Vancouver was dedicated as the Keith Millar Memorial Field house a fitting tribute to a hard working volunteer. Keith Millar passed away in 1995.

Leeta Sokalski Cup

Leeta started her involvement with women’s soccer in 1979 as a player in the Mainland Women’s Winter Soccer League (MWWSL). Leeta’s volunteer career started the following year with the Greater Vancouver Women’s Soccer Association (GVWSA). She participated in the amalgamation of the GVWSA and MWWSL in 1983 to form the current Metro Women’s Soccer League. Leeta was elected to the BC Soccer Board of Directors in 1986 and during her tenure on the Board she worked with Women in Sport Canada and Canada Soccer to create the first National Women’s Team program. She was part of the organizing committee that introduced women’s soccer to the BC Summer games and later, in her role as President of BC Soccer, Leeta assisted Canada Soccer in having female soccer included in the Canada Games. Most recently, Leeta received BC Soccer’s AC Sanford award in 2015; a prestigious award given in recognition of exceptional service to soccer in BC over a long period of time. She continues to volunteer with BC Soccer today.

Doug Day Cup

This cup is named after Doug Day who was a tireless worker on behalf of the game. Doug was involved with the game for decades in Victoria and on Vancouver Island. He was a strong proponent of both youth and adult soccer which was recognized by Saanich Fusion which has named a field after him and the Lower Island Women's Soccer Association who have named a cup in his honour. Doug Day was a former president of Vancouver Island Soccer League and later the Lower Island women's soccer Association.
