Sunny and warm on the first day of Head of the Charles, the weather was perfect for head racing! For those that
hadn’t seen the inside of a shell for quite a while (ahem, the Alumni 8’s), it was a great way to jump back in a boat
and participate in the most exciting race of the Fall season.
The Men and Women’s Alumni 8+’s had strong races and even competed against quite a few Olympians! The
Women’s Alumni repped #StrikeOutALS tanks in honor of BC Alum Pete Frates. The Women’s Club 4+ raced down
the course shortly afterwards, but was involved in a little incident— another boat took the turn too wide and forced
them to take a few strokes off. However, they quickly picked it back up and closed the gap. Saturday’s racing was
wrapped up by the Women’s Club 8+, whose time was one of the fastest in Boston College history in this event!

Sunday’s racing weather was a little chiller than the day before, but that did not stop the Eagles from flying
down the course. As the Women’s Championship 8+ appeared from under Eliot Bridge, it was clear that
they had found a powerful rhythm—and passed quite a number of bows! The roars were deafening around
the Eliot bend as Boston College took over the bridge and banks with a “We Are BC” chant.
The Men’s Collegiate 8+’s did not disappoint as they surged down the river. The Men’s Collegiate 8+ (A)
finished the course with the best standing in program history (8th!) and the Men’s Collegiate 8+ (B) raced
well against many school’s Varsity Eight. It was a great weekend of racing for both BCVM and BCVW!

Q. What are you doing now?
A. I am Associate General Counsel for the National Trust for Historic Preservation—a nonprofit organization that works to save historic places. I work on both our advocacy efforts to save places (such as Pawtucket Dam in Lowell, MA), and provide corporate and legal support to the organization with a focus on supporting our historic sites.
Q. What do you remember as your best day of practice/team activity?
A. I definitely remember the worst day of practice—freshman year—it rained, it snowed, it sleeted, there was ice on our blades, and then we had to derig. Girls were in tears. But the best day of prac-tice, I can’t recollect as they were all so much fun…I do re-member enjoying partner erg challenges, and, oddly, 6 x 500m.
Q. Any advice for current/former rowers?
A. You can’t get enough steady state in, at any point in your life.
And for the recent grads, make the effort to stay connected to Boston College and your teammates. We were very fortu-nate to have a unique college experience that formed strong friendships. The Chestnut Hill Rowing Association is a great way to stay connected to the current teams and the alumni network.
Q. Hobbies after rowing?
A. I have not been directly involved with rowing since moving to Washing-ton, D.C., but do find myself often running along the Potomac, critiquing bad catch-es. These days I run half and full mara-thons to stay in shape.

Q. What are you doing now?
A. I currently work for a Technol-ogy Management and Assets firm in Cambridge.
Q. Any advice for current/former rowers?
A. Don’t wait until the next race, next practice, or next piece. Seize every opportunity you have while you still can.
Q. Hobbies after rowing?
A. I have started to get into road cycling more, but I am still rowing (although without any club affiliation at the moment) the single with plans to race over the summer. I hope to join one of the boat clubs in the Boston area this Winter.
Q. What do you remember as your best day of practice/team activity?
A. Best day of practice would really have to be all of them, as corny as it sounds. If I had to pick one, cross-country skiing over Spring break this past year was a great change of pace and something I had never done before—definitely unforgettable.

What are you looking forward to this season?: I’m most excited about seeing what we can do with both the Varsity and the Novices come this winter when we hit the erg hall together. I remember being on the out-side looking in as a freshman and waiting to finally start interacting with the Varsity guys more frequently. When that happens, I’m confident in what this year has to hold.

Head of the Charles Weekend Always a great weekend for BC Rowing, and this year did not disap-point. We had a huge turnout of 180 or so at our annual reception at the boathouse Friday night. Many parents, extended family and a number of alums. Thanks to all who attended. Collectively we raised close to $8,000.000 combined for the men's and women's programs, counting proceeds from the raffle items and donations. Most importantly we had everyone together and got fired up for the weekend's racing and the coming year! The BC Women's boats raced pretty well both days. We had three boats race on Saturday, Alumni 8, Club 4 and Club 8, and a Champion-ship 8 raced on Sunday. The Club 8 and Club 4 both earned automatic entries for next year by finishing in the top half of their field (14th and 18th respectively). Both of those boats were looking for medals so were a little disappointed in the outcome and hungry to get more speed. On Sunday our Championship 8 had a very strong showing. We didn't quite achieve the top 20 and top half of the field finish were looking for, but the boat really showed improvement from previous years. We de-feated a number of strong programs including Dartmouth, Georgetown, BU and Columbia to name a few. After a slow start we passed both Old Dominion and MIT in the second half and pushed away from Radcliffe's 2V. Conditions were tough with strong headwinds on parts of the course so we were proud to have handled them well.
Princeton Chase After a two year hiatus we returned to the Princeton Chase this year. This is really competitive race with a number of top pro-grams racing attending every year. Our boats raced well again this week with the standout performance again coming from our Varsity 8. We topped our result from Head of the Charles by finishing closer to the top teams over a shorter distance in challenging conditions. Gusty cross and head winds made it tough going but we plowed thru a number of boats and held back UVA's 2V the entire length of the course. We ended up losing to UVA "B" in time but we finished 11th of 50 entries and defeated Cornell, Penn and Dartmouth's top entries. his result tied our best ever Princeton Chase finish from 2001 (also 11th). Our 2V8 finished 33rd of 50 entries and defeated a number of B boats from other teams and couple of A boats. This race marked the debut of our Frosh/Novice group and they finished 7th of 15 entries, beating the top Frosh boats from BU and GW. Our other entries raced hard and showed some progress for the most part. Our Varsity 4 raced aggressively and did a very good job in a strong field of 4's, finishing 16th of 30 entries. Many thanks to all the parents for the support both in Boston and in Princeton. There was tons of food and plenty of loud cheering from the shore. We are looking forward to some solid weeks of training before our final race this Fall, the Foot of the Charles, on November 15th. Go Eagles!
Although the 2014-15 season is still young, I am very excited for progress that we've made so far. We've got great depth this season, and that was highlighted by our 8th and 25th place finishes in the Collegiate Men's Eight event a the Head Of The Charles last weekend. The team's results from the Charles shows us that we are moving in the right direction, and we will try to carry that momentum into the spring season.
It was great to follow up the Head Of The Charles with a strong performance at Head of the Fish, and to get the whole team involved. The competition at the Fish includes many crews from the NERC league which we'll meet in the spring, and to have each Varsity rower come home with a medal is very encouraging and continues to show the developing depth in our program. The Fish was also the first race for our Novice squad, which consists mainly of walk-on's in their first rowing race ever. They held their own and we are excited to see this group devel-op as they get more races under their belts, including this weekend's Green Mon-ster Regatta.

HEAD F THE FISH BCVM SWEEPS
Boston College Varsity Men dominated at the Head of the Fish Regatta this past weekend in
Saratoga Springs, NY and brought home some intense hardware—including a couple of fish
heads! The Varsity Eight showed great speed with a 13 second gap between the first and second
place finisher in the Men’s Collegiate 8+ event. The 2V8 and 3V8 finished 1st and 6th respectively
in the Men’s Collegiate JV 8+ final. A few members of the team also double raced and brought
home medals in multiple events!
It was a great weekend for the Men as they look forward to the Tail of the Charles for the Varsity
and Green Monster for the Novice.

In their first collegiate
race, the Novice Eight
finished 3 seconds before
BU and set the tone for
their upcoming Green
Monster Regatta. Their
speed bodes well for the
program!
Head of the Charles was just the start for the
Eagles as they headed off to Princeton Chase
this Sunday (October 28th) to compete against
top programs in the nation. Finishing 11th, the
Varsity Eight beat Cornell, Dartmouth, UPenn,
Georgetown, MIT, and URI’s Varsity Eights! The
Second Varsity Eight also found success when
they beat MIT and GW’s A boats.
BCVW also raced in the Varsity Four category on
Sunday with several members of the team double
racing. Just .3 seconds separated BC’s V4+A and
V4+B boats, which demonstrates the depth of the
team. They will be back on their home course for
Foot of the Charles to close out the Fall Season!
ALUMNI WEEKEND
BCVM & BCVW kicked-off Alumni Weekend 2k14 with the Scott Laio Memorial Golf Tournament
followed by a Cocktail Hour on Friday Night at the Harry Parker Boathouse. On Saturday morning,
several Alumni Boats were thrown together for a few pieces against the current team—we held our
own! We also had an awesome tailgate before the BC v. USC football, which proved to be a huge UP-
SET for the Eagles. Thanks Ned Borgman for the photos and for all the Alumni who came out!
Boston College Women’s Rowing
Welcomes New Assistant Coach:
Carolyn Glandorf Carolyn Glandorf joins Boston College Women’s Rowing as an
Assistant Coach for the Varsity program. As an undergraduate,
she rowed for University of
Virginia and was member
of two NCAA Champion-
ship teams (2010 & 2012).
We are excited to have her
with us as her experience
as both a rower and a
coach will be very benefi-
cial to the speed of our
program! GO EAGLES!
