BBSC Suit and Cap Policy

• When a swimmer is representing BBSC at a dual meet, conference, USA meet, or Championship meet:– The swimmer must wear the team suit OR– The swimmer must wear an all black suit– If the swimmer wears a cap, the swimmer

must wear a BBSC team cap (new or old)

• We are a team, we need to look like a team

BBSC Individual Awards

• 10 Most Outstanding Swimmers• 10 Most Improved Swimmers• 10 Most Dedicated Swimmers• 1 Dolphin Award Winner• ‘Large’ trophy for any swimmer with a state

cut• ‘Medium’ trophy for any swimmer with a

regional cut• ‘Small’ trophy for any new swimmer or 10

Types of Swim Meets

• Dual Meets (BBSC vs. another team)– All swimmers assumed to be swimming

unless otherwise communicated

• USA-Swimming Meets (Invitational meets)– Only swimmers who sign up will swim

• Conference Championship Meet– JULY 11th

• USA Championship Meet– Qualifying time

Dual meets

• BBSC vs. another conference team– either at our pool or theirs

• All swimmers are in unless signed-out• No additional cost (paid for by club)• Line up is made by Coach Rob

– Usually available the practice prior to meet– May change based on actual meet attendance

• Bus – The team will arrange a bus for the conference

meet, stay tuned for details.

What a swimmer should bring

• Clothes and gear – Sweatshirt– Pants– Change of clothes– Extra towel(s)

• Food = Fuel– Fruit– Bagels– Water– Sport drinks

• Games, reading, homework

What to expect as a parent

• It will be warm & humid ...dress in layers • Seats

– Some pools are better than others– Bring a stadium chair or seat pad

• Maps to away meets are on the web site• Food – have another slice of pizza

– Some pools have better food than others– Pack your own

• Swimmers remain on pool deck with the team• Swimmers may leave after done swimming -

check in with coach before leaving

Age groups for dual meets

• 6 and under (free & back only)• 8 and under• 10 and under• 12 and under• 14 and under• 18 and under

• Swimmers “age up” on their birthday• Swimmers may swim in an older age group

SSSC Dual Meet Events(South Suburban Swim Conference)

• Medley Relays (4 swimmers; 1 stroke each; back,

breast, fly, free)• Freestyle • Breaststroke• IM (Individual medley; fly, back, breast, free)

SSSC Conference Meet• The most important club meet of

the season• Date: July 11th and Site: Oak Lawn HS• Only selected swimmers invited to go – it is

an honor to be selected• Coaches put together the “fastest” lineup

possible to score the most points• Placement determines our Conference

• Illinois Swimming, Inc. (ISI) – our LSC– Governs club swimming within Illinois– Grants meet sanctions on behalf of USA-Swimming– Governs & Organizes State Championships:

• South Suburban Swim Conference (SSSC)– A conference of ~20 teams in the South Suburbs– Grouped in 3 or 4 divisions: gold, blue, red (+ white)South Suburban

Benefits of USA-S Membership

• USA Swimming card allows member athletes to enter & compete in USA-Swimming sanctioned meets

• Required of all members in USA-Swimming registered clubs (like BBSC)

• Secondary medical/accident insurance coverage for anything occurring at club practices or sanctioned meets

• ISI is Illinois Swimming, Inc. (local swim committee of USA Swimming)

• Deck Pass on USASwimming.org• Deck Pass App • Pool pass for open swim at BBCHS pool

Volunteering

• Volunteer TWO times per family to receive volunteer refund

• Families can accrue multiple volunteer services at the same event – (ex: Mom times & Dad works in concessions)

• Refunds are distributed after the banquet at the end of the season (not deducted from dues)

• Volunteer opportunities– Home Dual meets

BBSC Volunteers are Responsible for

• Club Administration• Fundraising• Planning Club Events• Running Swim Meets

Timing

• Requirements for being a timer– Ability to use a pencil – Can “see the light”– Not afraid to push one or two buttons– Enjoy a few light showers– Sense of humor– Pay some attention to the race– Be at the pool about 30 minutes before

meet starts

How to Be a Great Swim Parent…• Get them to the pool early• Encourage healthy eating & sleeping habits• Encourage your swimmer’s effort

– When improving & dropping time– Gaining & improving swim & competition skills– When they “plateau”

• Don’t coach!• Talk with coaches about concerns• Stay off the deck, please!
