SERIES OVERVIEW

This series is based on several books written by Conan Doyle and it follows the story of a private investigator called Sherlock Holmes. With the help of John Watson, Sherlock solves any strange mystery as long as it catches his interest.Sherlock takes place in modern day 21st century Scotland Yard, London. This show is aired in certain networks such as British Broadcasting Channel (BBC). This TV program was created by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat. It began in October 24, 2010 and is still on the air.

MAIN CHARACTERS

Sherlock Holmes- He is an eccentric, intelligent private detective. He is very successful in his line of work due to his observation and deduction skills. Its because of these reasons that Holmes is a well-known detective later on in the series. Sherlock is known for being cold and rude to the people around him and claims to have difficulty understanding people . He calls himself a ‘high functioning sociopath”.

John Watson- He used to be a doctor in the military but was eventually discharged from his duties in Afghanistan due to a psychosomatic disorder. Watson is Sherlock’s most loyal and closest friend. He tends to help Holmes solve crime investigations. John has been known to have trust issues.

MAIN CHARACTERS

Mycroft Holmes- Brother of Sherlock Holmes. He and Sherlock have a complicated relationship since they are both constantly competing against one another. Despite their complicated history, Mycroft worries about his younger brother and is often involved in his life. Mycroft works for the British Secret Service as well as the CIA and the British government. He is known for being as perceptive and observant as Sherlock Holmes.

Mary Watson- She was formally known as Mary Morstan before marrying John Watson. She is clever and has a mysterious and dangerous past. Mary is a kind hearted and greatly cares about her husband. Additionally, Mary has a part time job as a nurse.

SOME OF THE VILLAINS

James Moriarty- He is known for being Sherlock’s nemesis and is a very dangerous individual. Moriarty is evil and cruel and uses his influence in the criminal world to get what he wants. He calls himself a ‘consulting criminal’. Moriarty is smart, patient and is more than willing to hurt innocents if it helps to satisfy his malicious desires. Irene Adler- She is known as ‘the woman’ and is has been the only person that has outsmarted Sherlock. Adler is manipulative and clever. She often uses her skills to seduce and convince people into giving her what she wants.

Charles Augustus Magnussen- Charles is both powerful and manipulative. He managed to gather and learn people’s deepest darkest secrets and used this information to blackmail public officials into doing his bidding. In turn this made him untouchable and very influential.

CONCLUSION

Overall this series is based on Conan Doyle’s crime fiction novels. Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat brought these books to life by creating the popular tv show known as Sherlock. This series aired in October 24, 2010 and has 4 seasons so far. Rotten Tomatoes has given positive reviews about this series and has even said that it has “ intelligently written story arcs”. In conclusion, I have watched this show myself and I think it has unique characters and scenarios that helps to creates a very captivating crime solving drama.
