Karen Johnson suggested putting a volley ball court on half of the tennis court area. She and others would be happy to help with fundraising if needed, but would like to see more options for kids as tennis courts are rarely used.

Resolution Pointe Subdivision construction Resolution Pointe is immediately adjacent to Bayshore to the west side of the Association. Chiniak Bay Drive is being extended into Resolution Pointe and will connect Bayshore and Resolution. Bayshore residents will be able to exit Bayshore via Chiniak to 100th Avenue and Resolution Pointe residents will be able to exit Resolution through Bayshore. UPDATE: Phase 1 began this year and 70% of the lots in Phase 1 are already in escrow. Construction of Phases 2 and 3 start next summer. As you may recall, full road development including sidewalks and lighting must be complete with Phase 2. In the meantime, large trucks have continued to roll through Bayshore taking soil in and out of Resolution. According to Doug Gagnon, Superintendent with Mass Excavation, this will continue on and off through October of this year. Residents who have questions or comments regarding truck routing and safety can contact Mr. Gagnon at 907-433-9263. AWWU with DOWL HKM Water utility upgrades continue this month by AWWU. The work will continue into next year. For a schedule and map you can follow the link to Schedule – FAQ – Map and Contact Info. The schedule has been updated and the main bulk of utility work will occur between mid-May and October 2014. Frawer Corp was the successful bidder on the project. Questions and comments may be directed to James Armstrong, AWWU Project Manager, at 907-564-2776 [email protected]

SPEED HUMPS You have probably noticed our speed humps have lost nearly all their paint. I called the Municipal paint shop last month and learned that instead of continually repainting speed humps they were going to move the signs closer to speed humps and add an arrow. At the time of this report our speed humps now have new signs (see photo below).

FALL IS HERE Fall is in the air and that means decorations are out at the corner of Admiralty Bay and Amber Bay Loop. You can enjoy the scene each time you enter the neighborhood. Thanks neighbors!

Homeowner events organized by Brook Wyatt, Administrative Assistant [email protected] or 907-344-0539

Family Halloween Carnival Ms. Wyatt is organizing the Family Halloween Carnival that was a huge success last year! Bayshore residents are encouraged to donate time or materials to this fun family event. Items needed include cakes, cookies, cupcakes, gently used stuffed animals and more. Holiday Craft Bazaar Ms. Wyatt is coordinating the annual holiday craft bazaar, now in its fifth year. To reserve a spot in the bazaar, neighbors and outside vendors should contact Brook at the office.

Bayshore Owners Association Maintenance Report Jeff Johnson, Maintenance Supervisor [email protected] | 907.522.4914

October 15, 2013

Pool Corrosion Issues: We have been working on corrosions and grounding issues in the pool since switching over to the salt system. Last month I reported to you that we were going to look at thermal imaging of heat levels of individual breaker box switches. However, Herb from Redi-Electric said it was unlikely that thermal imagining was an issue so we didn’t do a test. We are currently waiting for a proposal from Pride Electric of Redmond, Washington, regarding an on-site visit. The electrician there has expertise in the area of corrosion and grounding and has been advising me over the phone and via email over the summer and fall. Costs will include airfare and time. The electrician plans to stay overnight with a volunteer neighbor. Phosphate levels in the pool: As previously reported, we were excessively high at 8.4 ppm in late August. High levels are caused by things like body lotion, deodorant, hair conditioner, etc. We have continued to treat with phosphates and are now at 0.65 ppm, which is the lowest so far. We are aiming for less than 0.50. Unfortunately the chemical we use to lower phosphates leaves the water a bit cloudy. It doesn’t harm anything. It takes a few days to clear up. Flyers are posted in the pool area and explain about the need for showers and how that relates to phosphates.

Routine Maintenance

Routine maintenance is on target this month with things like changing out emergency lights. The women’s sauna control panel is not working properly. A part is on order. The sauna still works but the light doesn’t go on. The light that is very high in the clubhouse stairwell will be lowered for better lighting and ease of changing bulbs. A light in the entry way is being mounted to the wall. There are water drainage issues on the west end of building. The water needs to be channeled under sidewalk over to hill near tennis courts. I am exploring options with vendors. I need advice from the Board regarding the three trees in front of west side of building. One of the trees is dead. For the other trees, the roots will eventually cause havoc to foundation and sidewalk. I am recommending removal.

Discussion: Jeff can remove dead tree on own; however other spruce tree is large. Board suggested using decorative trees or shrubs from landscaper next spring.

Tia Young, Associate Administrator, says “Thanks!” for allowing her to attend the Chamber of Commerce train networking opportunity on Friday, October 4th. The theme was Cinema through the Century, and her dressing up as a “Pink Lady” from Grease was a hit. It was also a great way to spend her birthday. Tia would love the opportunity to go again. She feels that we can advertise with logo related items, such as bag with flyer, candy, and other little nick knacks. We have a meeting scheduled for October 29 to review specialty give-away items that we can personalize with our name. Tia passed out flyers and Colleen’s business card along with NAEYC brochures.

Parent Council Update Administration will be emailing and communicating with parents, hoping to get parents interested in being a part of the Parent Council.

Program Update Parent teacher conferences will be held on October 16th and 17th. The center will be closed on the 18th for staff training.

NAEYC Accreditation NAEYC contacted Colleen by email on October 8th, informing us the renewal for accreditation was accepted and our center’s accreditation is maintained until August 2014.

The Anchorage Chamber Train Ride was really fun on Friday, October 4! Many vendors and business representatives were on board and a lot of networking took place. Tia Young, Associate Administrator for Bayshore Early Learning Center and I took many cards and pamphlets to exchange with others while the train headed south. It was good seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones. The food provided was awesome! The theme this year was Cinema through the Century and many people got into the spirit by dressing as their favorite movie character. Tia and I are looking forward to the 2014 trip when we plan to do even more in the way of give-away items promoting the Bayshore's Chalet Room and Early Learning Center.

October 20 is the wedding expo at O'Malley on the Green. I expect it to be a good show with many brides! Numerous bookings for this year are still coming in. Most premium dates are already reserved!
