    For nearly four months

    we

    have been in

    the

    States, to

    report

    to

    the

    Churches on our

    f i rs t four years in the Amazon Valley. I t

    has

been our privilege to present the challenge

    of

    the work to be

    done

    there

    for

    Christ

    to

    many Churches

    and interested

    people who

    had

    Chr i s t :

    As quickly as

    possible

we will be getting back into

    the

    work

    to

    be done in Brazil

    af ter

    a r n v l n g

    in Belem

    August

    6t h. Tiie Furlough we have j u s t completed has

    been

    re

    freshing i n

    many ways.

    I t

certainly was wonderful to get to meet old friends again

and to make many new ones in th e many Churches we vi si t ed. I t ha s been a ny th in g b ut a

    vacation though

    actually

    harder on us health-wise

    than

    working

    in Brazil.

    As fo r

    the

work in Br a z il there i s more than ever

    to

    be done now. The Anti-Communist

revolution in April and subsequent drive

    against corruption

    should be a tremendous

    b o o s t to

    the;work o f

    C h r i s t .

The Radio Program which we ha ve b ee n

    needing

    should be under way very

    soon

    and be a

    few months

    old

    by

    y e a r s

    end.

    The

    plan

    is

    to

    us e

    i t

    in

    conjunction

    with

    correspondence

    courses by mail, to teach

    more

    people than

    we

could reach otherifise. This should produce

    greater results

than we have seen in the past. All of our missionaries

    in

    the Amazon

    Valley

    will

    be working together on

    this. I f anyone

    or any group

    feels

    the

    desire

    to help

    financially in this work, your

    contribution

will be acknowledged specially for this.

An Evangelizing Center in downtown Belem has been acquired, and will be opened about the

    f ir st

of September. We hope th e nucleus fo r a new

    Church

will come from i t . This also

    is

requiring expenditure of more money about 50.CX5 per month.

    Th e P ar a B ib le

    Inst i tute

    has

    5

    s tu d en ts e n ro l le d

    this year which i s

    ab out a n a ver ag e

    of our

    h i^

and low enrollment since the school began

    full-time

    in 1961.

    We

    will

    be

    working

    a ga in w it h

    th e

    Institute

    training

    preachers

    and chiarch workers.

    Both

    of th e

Churches in Icoaraci the town we

    l iv e in

    have been growing

    during

    our

    absence,

    which

is encouraging. They have not been without American leadership, but

    have not had

    i t

    a l l the

    time in

every service. One ha s grown from about 35 on Sunday

    mornings

    to

about 55, and t he other from 35

    to

    45. The Churches

    usually

    have a

    larger

    attendance in th e evenings than in th e mornings, i f i t

    is no t

    raining. One of

    these

    Churches has built a

    Baptistry

    and a

    new

    sidewalk, completely on i ts

    own since

    offer

    ings have increased as a

    result

    of revival

    in

    the Church.

    These

    are signs of

    better

g ro wt h a nd health in the Churches.
