Bay Ridges Neighbourhood The Bay Ridges Neighbourhood is bounded by Frenchman's Bay to the west, Highway 401 and Bayly Street to the north, the hydro transmission corridor to the east, and Lake Ontario to the south. The total area of the neighbourhood is 3.84 square kilometres, and includes the eastern part of Frenchman’s Bay.
In the 1870’s, the Frenchman's Bay Harbour Company built a lighthouse, wharf and grain elevator at Frenchman's Bay and a small village grew up around this development. However, the majority of residential development in this area occurred after 1960, and consists of a mix of detached, semi-detached, rowhouse (townhouse) and apartment dwellings.
More recently, two significant developments have taken place in Bay Ridges: the Nautical Village; and San Francisco by the Bay. The Nautical Village at the base of Liverpool Road is a popular tourist destination. The area was developed between 2004 and 2007, with a “nautical” theme, and includes residential apartments and townhouses, integrated with an array of small-scale shops, businesses, cafes and restaurants. San Francisco by the Bay includes a cluster of townhouse complexes, and two high rise apartments with ground-related retail along Bayly Street, within a 5 minute walk of the Pickering GO train station.
Bay Ridges is supported by two elementary schools, eight neighbourhood parks, three community parks, three places of worship, and a community and seniors' centre with a lawn bowling facility. The neighbourhood is served by two commercial plazas: one at the southeast corner of Liverpool Road and Krosno Boulevard, and the other located at the southwest corner of Bayly Street and Sandy Beach Road.
In addition, Bay Ridges is home to an industrial district, located east of Sandy Beach Road, which boasts over 50 000 square metres of industrial floor space dedicated to light manufacturing,
warehousing, vehicle repair, vehicle rental, offices and a gymnastics club.
Liverpool Road is the main north/south collector route through the neighbourhood, providing access (westbound) and an exit (westbound) to and from Highway 401, and to Bayly Street. Sandy Beach Road is also an important north/south collector route, providing secondary access to the neighbourhood.
The Lake Ontario waterfront, Frenchman’s Bay, Alex Robertson Park and the Hydro Marsh are key elements of the Bay Ridges neighbourhood and the City’s Natural Heritage System. These features provide opportunities for scenic views and walks, summertime entertainment and outdoor events. Additionally, Beachfront Park, located on the north shore of Lake Ontario, coupled with a waterfront trail and board-walk, and Millennium Square (located at the southern end of the Nautical Village), add to the vibrancy of the marina and the lake waterfront.

This brochure provides information on the Bay Ridges Neighbourhood population and social characteristics, derived
from census data by Statistics Canada. Statistics Canada completes a census of the Canadian population every five years. This brochure will be updated and/or revised as new census data
becomes available.
The 1991 Census Long Form questionnaire and the 2011 National Household Survey are based on sample surveys of the
population. The 1991 Census Long Form questionnaire was mandatory while the 2011 National Household Survey was
voluntary. Due to this change in methodology, the 2011 data may be subject to underreporting or response bias. In certain
instances where survey responses are limited, data may be suppressed resulting in the data not being published.
