Thursday, 6th April 2017 Term 1 Week 11
Dear Parents,
The term is coming quickly to a close and we are finalising all our Term 1 units of work. The last
eleven weeks have flown and what an incredibly successful one it has been for Bathurst Public School.
Congratulations to all children on a wonderful term of work!
Our Easter Hat Parade was a wonderful morning. The children looked FANTASTIC. The weather
was perfect and the children, parents and staff thoroughly enjoyed the dancing and festivities.
Congratulations to all our Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2 children on their lovely Easter Hats and their
participation. Thank you also to the many parents and friends for coming along to support the event
and the donations of 100 Easter Egg prizes. A special mention must be made of all the Early Stage 1
and Stage 1 staff for their incredible work on Tuesday. Our school will now donate its yearly pledge of
$1000.00 to Stewart House. Thank you everyone for your support.
We have had more success on the Sporting Arena. Congratulations to Jacob Lamb and Manny Tobin
who were selected in the Western Region PSSA Rugby League Teams and Manny Tobin who was
selected in Western Region AFL Team. Both boys will attend their respective N.S.W PSSA. Boys
League and AFL carnivals next term. This is a fantastic effort and one which we are all very proud of.
We wish them all the best at the NSW Carnivals.

their full school uniform and not their sports uniform for this ceremony.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents and carers for their ongoing support of our
wonderful school and the programs we have offered the children during Term 1. Thank you to the
children for a great term which has been extremely busy both in and out of the classroom. A special
thank you to all the staff who are so committed to the children at our school. Their dedication to
producing quality educational programs for our children to be engaged in is always paramount. We are
extremely lucky to have such a fantastic staff at Bathurst Public School.
Teachers return for the Term 2 School Development Days on Monday 24th
April 2017 where we will
be involved in English Syllabus and Technology work.
All children Kindergarten - Year 6 return to school on Wednesday 26th
April, 2017.
FOOD Allergies - We do have several children at our school who have peanut allergies and have
severe reactions if exposed to this food. Parents are asked to be mindful of this when packing recess
and lunch and are encouraged not to send products which contain nuts in them to school.
A general reminder:-
All items of clothing and personal belongings should be clearly marked with your child’s
name.
All children require a broad brimmed hat each day as our school has a “No Hat, No Play”
policy.
When parents and friends come to the school during the day, they should present to the front
office on arrival. This is a Legal and Workplace Safety requirement and is followed for the
safety and security of all children and teachers.
We continue to encourage parents to make appointments to come and talk about your child’s
progress, problems that may arise, ideas etc. It is reminded that the education of your child is a
team effort with teachers and parents being the main stakeholders. With this in mind, it is an
important reminder that the parent/teacher relationship always needs to be cohesive and
supportive and one of mutual respect. I am sure we will continue to work with one another in a
positive manner.
All money coming to the school should be placed in a sealed envelope with your child’s name,
correct amount of money, class and what the money is for clearly written on the front. All
money and notes should be sent directly to the front office at the school for processing.
Our School Newsletter will now be uploaded every Thursday so all parents receive information at the
same time. Please refer to our website to download the weekly newsletter.
If any parent has any concerns regarding any aspect of school life, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Arrival and departure time for school
Parents are reminded that school begins at 9.00am each day. Teachers are on duty from 8.30am on the
top quad, COLA and Kinder Quad area. Children should not be dropped to school before this time as
the playground is unsupervised. Please ensure this is adhered to for the safety of all of our children.
School finishes at 3.00pm. Children who catch buses go to the COLA where they are supervised by
teachers until buses arrive. Children who are picked up from the front area of the school sit on the front
lawns, are supervised by staff and leave via the front gates when parents arrive and park their car. The
teacher remains on duty till 3.20pm so parents are asked to ensure their child is picked up by this time.
Parents are asked to please ensure they inform their child/children where they need to go after school
and how they are getting home before children come to school in the morning. This will ensure that
children do not get distressed in the afternoon.
Intention to apply: Year 5 entry to an opportunity class in 2018
Opportunity classes cater for highly achieving academically gifted students who may otherwise be
without sufficient classmates at their own academic and social level. These classes help gifted and
talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in
specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level.
Applications for opportunity class placement are considered mainly on the combined results of the
Opportunity Class Placement Test and school assessments. The Opportunity Class Placement Test will
be held on Wednesday 26 July 2017.
If you would like to have your child considered for Year 5 opportunity class entry in 2018, you need to
apply soon. You will need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email
address).
Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from 26 April 2017 in a printed
application information booklet and at https://education.nsw.gov.au/selective-high-schools-and-
opportunity-classes/year-5 . The application website opens on 26 April 2017 and closes on Friday 12
May 2017. No late applications will be accepted.
There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public
library. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Unit for
assistance after 26 April 2017.
Student Attendance at School
Why is regular attendance at school important?
Regular school attendance will help your child to succeed in later life.
Attending school every day makes learning easier for your child and helps build and maintain
friendships with other children.
If your child misses learning the basic skills in the early years of primary or high school, they may
develop learning problems in later years.
1 day off a week = 10 days a term (2weeks - gone!)
1 day off a week over the period of 1 year = most of 1 term - gone!!
If this pattern starts in Kindergarten and continues through to Year 6 almost 1 and a half years
of learning is gone!!
If this pattern continues through high school students will miss nearly three years of learning.
If students miss days of learning they reduce the chance of achieving to their academic
potential.

Bathurst Public School, read the Newsletter, class notes, find the canteen menu and have alerts sent to
you. Please remember to follow your child’s class for 2017. Information on how to access Tiqbiz is set
out below.
Online Payments
It is now possible for parents to make online payments to the school for amounts owing for students,
via a secure payment page hosted by Westpac. Payments can be made using either a Visa or
MasterCard credit or debit card, and can be made via computer, tablet or mobile phone. The payment
page is accessed from the front page of the schools website by selecting $ Make a payment.
This is a secure payment system hosted by Westpac to ensure that your credit/debit card details are
captured in a secure manner. These details are not passed back to the school.
Money and Notes
As all parents and children are aware, all money, when it comes to school for an event, goes directly to
the school office. This procedure is working well and we thank everyone for following this process.
When children and/or parents return permission notes to school, they also need to be taken to the
office. All notes will be collated and kept in the office and staff will pick up notes from the office after
the closing date. We are hoping this streamlines the process with notes.

School Contributions 2017
The Department of Education and Communities sets the contribution level. The funds are used to
purchase reading and maths materials for the benefit of all students. Without these contributions, we
are unable to provide resources of the highest quality that meet our expectations for your children.
Fees can be paid by sending cash or cheque in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, class and
School Fees written on it to the front office or by coming to the school and paying by cash, cheque or
EFTPOS. Fees can also be paid using POP. The fees are:
$50.00 (1 child)
$90.00 (2 children)
$120.00 (3 or more children)
In addition to the School Fees, each child is asked to pay a:
$15.00 levy for Technology (each child K-6)
$15 levy for resources
These levies will enable us to provide more software and classroom resources such as readers and
maths equipment for the children to use. We thank you for your invaluable contribution.
PSSA Representative Sporting Teams
Children in Years 5 and 6 have been offered the opportunity to inform us what sports they would like
to trial for selection in Western Area teams to play at NSW PSSA Carnivals. Miss Miller is in the
process of handing out trial information notes to these children as trials for many sports are
approaching. It is vitally important that parents sign these notes and return them to Miss Miller as all
nominations MUST be made from the school. Bathurst District PSSA will not accept children to trials
that have not returned the signed permission note to the school or been nominated by the school.
Please ensure notes are returned to Miss Miller by the due dates.

Term 1 Library Monitors I owe a BIG thank you to the Library Monitors who gave up their lunch time to work with me in the library this term. The
students were rostered on to certain days and either helped in the library or computer lab.
I was impressed by their enthusiasm and dedication to their job. It was a pleasure to have such respectful and responsible
students acting as role models to younger students. Well done!
Our Term 1 Library Monitors
Happy reading and Happy Easter! Mrs Woolfe

Canteen News
The canteen is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.
The ‘Department of Education’ and ‘Healthy Canteen Association’ have
nearly completed the updated ‘Nutrition in Schools Policy’, their main
focus is looking at salt & sugar content and serving sizes. There is a
three year period to implement these changes, however, BPS P&C and
BPS Staff see the importance of healthy eating choices for children,
for this reason we have already instigated some changes to the winter menu.
We will no longer have:
Chips
Chicken burgers
Hamburgers – winter only
New to the winter menu:
Mild butter chicken curry with rice
Macaroni cheese with vegetables
Egg jaffle
Frozen pineapple rings
Crunchy salad cups – (containing seasonal cut up fruit & vegetables)
Don’t forget at recess we have the favourite
Hot chocolate
Noodle cups
The P&C value the suggestions and opinions of students, parents and staff, if you have
any suggestions or questions in regard to the canteen please either attend the next P&C
meeting or place a note in the canteen slot.
Flexi-schools
Don’t forget flexi-schools is a convenient way to place your order. Go to
www.flexischools.com.au for more information and to register.
Volunteers
Thank you to all the volunteers who have helped on the canteen in previous years and
remember we are always looking for new volunteers, so contact the school or Heather on
6331 3275 if you are able to help.
