BathurstTake the time to experience the oldest inland settlement in Australia. No matter what your age or interest, there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re seeking adventure, activities or just a relaxing break, your visit to the Bathurst region is guaranteed to delight.
In just an hour or so, you can walk through the beautiful parks and gardens located in the heart of Bathurst. The city also boasts a number of heritage buildings and monuments if you’d like to meander around the CBD. Unearth the region’s past at the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum on 224 Howick Street. The museum boasts nearly 2,000 fossil and mineral samples and is open daily. If you have a few hours up your sleeve, you can take a self drive tour and discover the history of Bathurst and the region. Why not search for an ancestor on the Heritage Wall at the lower end of William Street or see one of the many incredible exhibitions at the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) on Keppel Street. Otherwise, you can wander along the banks of the Macquarie River and view the ‘Conversation’ sculpture.Experience the excitement of motor racing with at least one lap of the Mount Panorama motor racing circuit. Pop into the National Motor Racing Museum for a look at the history of motor racing that started on the country roads around the district. The museum, located on Murray’s Corner Panorama Avenue, Mount Panorama, is full of history and motor racing memorabilia. It is open daily 9am to 4.30pm, except for Christmas Day and some other public holidays. You can follow the winners’ plaques from the Bathurst 500, and later 1000s, along Victor’s Walk in Russell Street. And last, but by no means least, drive around the old Vale Circuit on the southern outskirts of the city. This road has changed very little since motor cycle races took place there in the 1930s so take care on the bends and gravel surface. For more extensive ventures, visitors can explore the historic villages of the Bathurst region. Pick up a copy of the booklet on villages from the Bathurst Visitor Information Centre on Kendall Avenue and select the ones that you want to visit. Each is just a short drive away through beautiful countryside. Take along a picnic lunch and find a special spot to stop or grab a bite to eat at an old country pub.
From Bathurst, you can travel north through the historic villages of Peel and Wattle Flat to Sofala where you can wander the streets of the oldest surviving Gold Rush town in Australia. From Sofala travel to Hill End through spectacular areas of scenery like Wallaby Rocks. When you arrive in this historic town make a point of dropping into the Hill End Visitor Centre along High Street to collect information about the village so that you don’t miss anything. You can embark on a self-guided tour of this quaint township to explore its many heritage sites. Likewise, you can take a guided tour of Bald Hill Tourist Mine or the well-preserved residence of Craigmoor for a further glimpse into the region’s past. The Cobb & Co Heritage Trail is a must-do while visiting the Bathurst region. Bathurst was headquarters of the Cobb & Co coaching company during the late 1800s, and many interesting sites remain in the city today. Start at the Bathurst Visitor Information Centre where one of the original, fully restored coaches is on display. Then pick up a copy of the Cobb & Co Heritage Trail, which navigates the coaching routes estabished by Cobb & Co. Visit some of the reminders of this era in villages like Rockley and O’Connell. On the way, stop in at a quintessential country pub for a sumptuous lunch. For more information on the Cobb & Co Heritage Trail, please visit www.cobbandco.net.au.Many fine examples of early architecture can be found in the city and surrounds. Three of the most significant houses in the region are open to the public at various times. Abercrombie House is an imposing 52 room mansion built in the late 1800s, while Chif ley Home is a simple railway worker’s cottage where a Prime Minister once lived. Miss Traill’s House and Garden provides a record of a pioneering family. With a bit of planning each of these houses could be visited over a weekend using a Historic Homes Pass purchased from the Bathurst Visitor Information Centre. The staff will be only too happy to help you plan your visits. As an emerging food and wine destination, the Bathurst region offers a variety of ways to indulge in its gourmet produce. Dine in at one of the many delicious eateries on offer, sample the local produce and cool climate wines at one of the market or festival events, and treat your palate to a premium drop at one of the cellar doors in the region. To see all that Bathurst has to offer drop into the Bathurst Visitor Information Centre located at 1 Kendall Avenue opposite the Showground. While there, you can browse through the vast array of brochures, information sheets and booklets about the city and the surrounding region.
For more information on the Bathurst region, please visit bathurstregion.com.au. Alternatively, drop into the Bathurst Visitor Information Centre at 1 Kendall Avenue, Bathurst.

For more information on Orange, please visit www.visitorange.com.au. Alternatively, drop into the Orange Visitor Information Centre at 151 Byng Street, Orange.
Orange is known as Australia’s Colour City and, with its four distinct seasons, it is easy to see why. The seasonal colours are showcased through the city’s magical Cook and Robertson Parks and the Orange Botanic Gardens.
Orange has a population of over 40,000 people and, with surrounding towns and villages, supports a population of 100,000 through its industrial, educational, health and commercial services. In Orange you will find a welcoming city full of life, elegant streetscapes and buildings, beautiful parks and
gardens, and some of the best regional food and wine in Australia. Orange is also blessed with spectacular landscapes. Mount Canobolas (the highest point in a straight line between the Blue Mountains and the Indian Ocean) dominates the city skyline and its walking trails, waterfalls, lookouts and picnic spots make it the ideal place to enjoy the relaxed beauty of the area. Nearby Lake Canobolas is great for swimming, cycling, fishing and sailing.Orange was settled in the early 1800s and named after the Prince of Orange, who later became King of the Netherlands. It is a modern city that has grown from its rich mining past.
This city is rich in history and just outside Orange is a monument marking the birthplace of Australian bush poet Banjo Paterson. Each year in February, the city plays host to the Banjo Paterson Poetry Festival, which is foremost a community event that celebrates poetry as well as features a night market, an outdoor cinema and much more.Orange’s industry base is significant and diverse, ranging from apple orchards through to whitegoods manufacturing, mining, tourism, agricultural support and research facilities.Orange also has great sporting, recreational and cultural facilities, including the Orange Regional Gallery, Library and Theatre.Orange is fast becoming known as a place to enjoy world-class culinary delights. With a reputation and tradition of producing a variety of quality local produce and offering first class restaurants ensures Orange’s culinary attraction remains strong.Located just outside Orange are a number of historic villages that take you back to a time when the simple things in life were important. Villages like Lucknow, Millthorpe, Carcoar and Canowindra are full of one-of-a-kind stores, historic treasures, bluestone churches and unique pubs.Orange is a great destination for relaxing short breaks, food and wine experiences, art and heritage explorations or simply to enjoy the natural beauty of the region. The Orange region hosts a number of popular events, which include FOOD Week, the Orange Wine Festival, Australian National Field Days, Orange Apple Festival and the Canowindra International Balloon Challenge.

Mount CanobolasTall and majestic Mount Canobolas, an ancient volcano, stands 1,395 metres above sea level and is often capped with snow in winter. A stunning 360 degree view from the summit encompasses the city of Orange, the rolling countryside and the Blue Mountains in the distance. There are seven walking tracks, two camping areas and a number of spectacular lookouts and waterfalls here. At the foot of Mt Canobolas lies Lake Canobolas, a large tranquil lake that provides a range of activities such as water sports, picnics, barbeques and bushwalking, and also features the Meadow Creek Pumphouse.
Orange WineriesThe region of Orange, with its combination of soil type, cool climate and elevation, allows for a rich array of varietals to be produced. As a result, the region is f lush with wineries offering premium cool climate wines such as Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir and Merlot, with newer varietals on the market available such as Tempranillo. If you have time, be sure to embark on a guided wine tour to truly appreciate the quality of the wine making in the region. For more information on wineries in the Orange region, please visit www.visitorange.com.au/wine-and-food/cellar-doors-a-vineyards.
