1. Position overview

The Lecturer FSK is responsible for the delivery of quality Vocational Education and Training (VET) within the context of Batchelor Institute's role as Australia's leading First Nations Tertiary Education and Research provider.

VET Lecturer positions within Batchelor Institute are aligned to the IBSA VET Practitioner Capability Framework adapted to the Batchelor Institute context1.

This position will play a critical role in conducting and interpreting ACSF assessments and contributing to the development of Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills within the prison cohort of NT Correctional Services (NTCS). Detailed Statement of Duties

1. Conduct effective pre- and post- training ACSF assessments of prisoners. 2. Delivery of a range of LLN accredited and non-accredited programs and Certificate I and II

Foundation skills through a range of flexible methodologies including innovative and IT based strategies within strict timeframes.

3. Develop appropriate teaching materials which respond to clients learning needs. In particular, provide specialist technical knowledge and input into the development of a workplace English language, literacy and numeracy programs

4. Prepare training plans, application and enrolments forms and associated resources required for the effective and efficient delivery and assessment of courses.

5. Integrate Foundation Skills into vocational training programs. 6. Maintain student records as required; report progress of students to the Division required by

NVR standards (ASQA). 7. Undertake the basic administrative tasks required of all Batchelor Institute staff in relation to

course delivery. 8. Develop strong relationships with stakeholders and students to support learning and consult and

counsel them on academic progress and recommend appropriate action. 9. Maintain professional development particularly in the area of foundation skills development and

integration into vocational training programs. 10. Other duties within the range of skills normally associated with this designation as directed by

Detailed Statement of Key Responsibilities and Performance Standards

1.1 Teaching Demonstrate awareness of basic VET educational theories; determine applicability of theories to

the learning needs of individuals and groups. Contribute to development of resources and programs based on the Batchelor Institute Learning

and Teaching Framework, which generates authentic learning experiences; contribute to the design of flexible learning strategies.

Use strategies and skills to ensure learner engagement and achievement of learning outcomes; create supportive learner interrelationships; use a range of technologies effectively.

Contribute to program evaluation; seek regular feedback to evaluate own performance and plan for improvements.

1.2 Assessment Demonstrate understanding of the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence. Contribute to the development of assessment tools, or modify existing ones, to suit learner

needs and specified context. Employ a range of methods to ensure principles of assessment and rules of evidence are met

in assessment processes and decisions. Participate in assessment validation processes.

1.3 Industry and Community Engagement Liaise with enterprises and community to ensure teaching and assessment reflects current

industry practices and community values and aspirations. Participate in enterprise and community networks to enhance own knowledge and skills. Maintain vocational competency relevant to own subject area; keep up to date with industry

changes; participate in relevant industry and community events/networks/consultation. Contextualise program content and adapt teaching practices to suit specified enterprise needs

and community values and aspirations.

1.4 Systems and Compliance Understand the Standards for RTO’s 2015 and relevant legislation and ensure compliance in own

work practices. Develop own knowledge of key stakeholders such as ASQA and NT and state training authorities,

relevant training advisory councils, skills services organisations, and licensing bodies. Use current training packages and accredited courses, and supporting tools and resources, to

support training and assessment practices. Ensure work practice comply with Batchelor Institute policies and procedures; maintain accurate

and up-to-date records; use Batchelor Institute electronic systems.

2. Essential selection criteria

Applicants must demonstrate they are able to undertake the responsibilities of the position as contained in the position overview and are able to meet the following Key Selection Criteria:

2.1 Qualifications and LicensingThe successful candidate must possess a relevant vocational qualification at the diploma or degree level combined with a minimum of 3 years Industry/professional/vocational experience. The successful applicant will hold:

A tertiary qualification equivalent to three (3) year’s higher education relevant to a qualification in TESOL/ESL, significant experience in ACSF assessments.

The minimum vocational teaching qualification of Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40110 with TAELLN401/411 and TAEASS502, and/or preferred TAE40116 and/or Diploma or higher level qualification in adult education.

Any Vocational or trade qualifications to support students’ employability skills.

2.2 Domains of Work

Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in Vocational Education and Training, including managing student progression that will enable vocational training and education programs in the relevant teaching areas to be researched, prepared, delivered, assessed, evaluated and administered in a variety of contexts, including remote contexts and workplace delivery, with reference to the above Domains of Work requirements.

2.3 Work Skills

Demonstrated personal and interpersonal skills for working effectively as a team member to achieve outcomes within an Aboriginal Vocational and Training contexts as per the above Skill Areas requirements.

Knowledge of the social, political, historical and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as relevant to Vocational Education and Training, and demonstrated capacity to work effectively and communicate appropriately with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, communities, organisations and staff members.

2.5 VET Management and Administration

Demonstrated understanding of and ability to comply with VET management and administration policies, procedures and business rules

2.6 NT Context Must be able to undertake travel throughout the Northern Territory by land, sea and air (eg. in a

light aircraft), possess a Northern Territory ‘C’ class driver’s licence with experience driving on unformed roads, and be prepared to stay in a range of accommodation and in various environmental settings available to the Batchelor Institute staff.

Must have working with children card (OCHRE card). Possess a Current criminal history check or the ability to obtain one.

2.7 Legislation and regulatory requirements

Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.

- Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.

NOTE:

Certified copies of qualifications and evidence of experience MUST be submitted. A Staff Skills Matrix must be completed and endorsed by the Institute prior to an employment

contract being offered.

Desirable Selection Criteria Qualifications in English as a Second Language or adult education qualifications.

Further Information and Special requirements:1. The Batchelor Institute and NT Correctional Services have a Smoke Free Policy. Staff are not permitted to smoke anywhere on Departmental premises, facilities or in vehicles, nor whilst working off-site.

2. The successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal history check confirmed by a finger print and name check and an internal Departmental Integrity Check prior to confirmation of employment.
