Kevin J. Batchelor passed away on March 29, 2015. He was an advocate of arts and culture in the Orillia community. Batchelor had shown his art during OMAH’s Life and Limb exhibition as well as in the 2013 Carmichael Canadian Landscape Exhibition. The Kevin J. Batchelor Painting Prize is a totaling of $10,000 with $1000.00 awarded annually to an emerging artist in the subject of painting, drawing and mixed media under the Carmichael Canadian Landscape Exhibition: Tradition Transformed. The award is entitled the Kevin J. Batchelor Emerging Artist Award as an umbrella term for any type of painting, drawing and mixed media and will not include any work falling under the mediums of photography, video or digital media. This award is to commemorate Kevin J. Batchelor’s investment and love of the arts and to honour emerging artists as requested by the Batchelor family. The Kevin J. Batchelor Emerging Artist Award will be exclusively awarded to an emerging artist in the area of painting, drawing and mixed media—judged by the 2016 Carmichael Canadian Landscape Exhibition: Tradition Transformed—falling under the following category of emerging artist based on CARFAC’s definition: Emerging artist – artists in early stages of career who have a small collection of independent work. Their artistic voices reveal significant potential to audiences and professionals. Emerging artists are rigorous in their approach to creation and production and development. Emerging artists have some professional accomplishment and some recognition and have mastered their basic techniques of their art form through education or apprenticeship. Artists may also have a distinctive style that is being worked on. (CARFAC). In order to be considered for the award, artists must do the following: 1) work in the medium of painting, drawing and mixed media. 2) provide a statement on why they consider themselves an ‘emerging artist’ (basically an introduction) and a short outline of their current status, and provide one letter of reference. 3) provide a CV/Resume. 2016 Carmichael Canadian Landscape Exhibition: Tradition Transformed Jury Criteria: Kevin J. 1) Background check done by committee (on if the artist qualifies as an

emerging artist). 2) Selecting an art piece based on what best fulfills the criteria of emerging

artist in painting, drawing and mixed media and/or an artist in the mediums of painting, drawing and mixed media who show a high degree of potential and are working on establishing their own distinctive artistic voice.
