and Sacra Via● stood in between the curia and the
temple of Faustina
Origin● originally built in 5th century BCE as
butcher shops (tabernae lanienae)● erected in 179 BCE by Marcus Fulvius
Nobilior● after death, completed by Marcus
Aemilius Lepidus● originally named Basilica Fulvia● renamed after the Aemilian gens
Importance
● used as a place of business● Roman businessmen held political
meetings and community gatherings● place of pride for builders● walls depicted early Roman legends
